Boston ADE/Afcad files

Post by atco » Sat Feb 24, 2018 2:35 pm

Hello all,

Similar to YYZ, this is an alternative ADE set which replicates real life operations at Logan.
Unfortunately as is the case for any airport the limitations of the base sim mean the only way to do this is to create multiple files that are wind dependent.

In this set you have the following options:
0409:
Departing 04R and 09
Landing 04L and 04R

0915:
Departing 09 and 14
Landing 15R

2227:
Departing 22R
Landing 22L and 27

2733:
Departing 33L
Landing 27 and 33R and 32

0409 should be used as the primary Easterly operation and 2227 should be the primary Westerly operation. In stronger South Easterly or North Westerly winds obviously use the 0915 and 2733 files.

BASE:
Included in the release and does not have crosswind runways added. So arrival and departure runways will be very limited based on wind direction. All runways open, suitable for VATSIM/IVAO etc

BASE_XWIND:
Included the the release and has all runways crosswinded. Be advised this may result in very chaotic AI movements as effectively every runway is available. I have seen traffic using both the 04s, 09, 14 and 15R at the same time. Ground flows are likely to be all over the place. All runways open, suitable for VATSIM/IVAO etc

During testing I found several annoyances that can't be overcome. When using 0409 for example aircraft will sometimes land on 14 which should not happen. I disconnected RW14 from the airport on this ADE because the traffic flow exiting 14 will just end up head on to everything and cause head to head impasses that will result in AI disappearing everywhere. If anything lands on 14 it will disappear once it has finished its landing roll.
Traffic will also sometimes land on 09. There is no way to stop this happening, 09 is closed for arrivals on both ends, it shouldn't happen but for some reason it does. Thankfully only rarely.

Runway lengths for 14/32 and 09/27 have been tweaked slightly to control runway assignment "scoring" by the base sim. 09/27 was lengthened by 10ft in order for it to score higher and send more departures to it. At the real length of just under 7000ft most departures go to 04R and only CRJ and below sized aircraft would depart 09.
14/32 was shortened by around 10ft again to take it under 5000ft so only small types should use it, up to about Q400 or CRJ size. Nothing bigger than that should use it although in testing I did see one time when the ATC system tried to land a United 777 on it with predictably disastrous results!

Note also there is just not enough parking at the International terminal during peak time, so there will likely be overspill into the remote stands. BA and Emirates will park first in the remote gates because these aircraft have extremely long ground times and otherwise block gates for several hours at a time. Parking assignments are taken from the Logan Airport website. I have kept the VRD parking code for Virgin America even though they operate now under the ASA code. The Alaska gates are coded for both ASA and VRD as I figured it will take people time to update their AI.

Hi,
shall I install all the bgl files included in the zip file or only one?

Best regards

You can install them all but only one should ever be active at a time. You will have to manually deactivate any ones you don't want active by changing the extension from .bgl to .off

Always only ever have one active ADE file at a time.

Set 2733 as winds were 345@15 but ATC sent departures to 15R, any ideas why?

Sorry been away on holiday last week.

I've just seen why that might happen, and its a simple mistake on my part.
One of the crosswind runways in the ADE has the wrong heading. It shows 40.1 where it should be 50.1 and that means that the crosswind technique is messed up which is why the runways are all over the place.

This is a fixed version, this should cure that problem. If it doesn't please let me know and I'll see what else might be going on.

Hello,

Thanks for your updated afcad work, it's quite nice. I did notice though that when I have one of your afcads active , the default p3d cranes to the south of 4L/4R are showing and they are tall. With the 2 default afcads I believe these cranes are suppressed. I'm no ade/afcad master, so I'm wondering if it's possible for those to be suppressed within your files. The attached image shows the 4 cranes from the default kbos. Thanks.

That should not be the case as all the ADE files were built from the original base file, so if they are excluded in that then they will be excluded in all of them as I didn't touch the excludes.
I looked in the ADE's and there are exclusion boxes present where the cranes are.

Is anyone else seeing this?

It's my fault Gary :)

I needed to adjust the excludes but only worked on the basic & crossing runways files.
I'll fix the others soon.

Thanks for the update just tried it, winds were 345@15 and still departures being directed to 15R.

Isn't there an RNAV to 04L?
