Seen the FSX commercial?
Seen the FSX commercial?
I saw it on Discovery tonight...
It runs at 1FPS even in the damn commercial! Oh, Microsoft...

Re: Seen the FSX commercial?
Really? I haven't seen it. I have it running about 15-25 fps in most situations now. But look at my system specs. I feel sorry for anyone with less. Hell, I feel sorry for myself. This performance might be sufficient for some but not me. I dread to think what's going to happen when addons are applied.tjsynkral wrote:I saw it on Discovery tonight...

*George, I saw you getting beat up over at Avsim again yesterday. I would have liked to of helped you out but what's the point?

Hey Dan,
I know there's no point, but I enjoy winding up the cheerleaders.
Some people will defend FSX so viciously I'm baffled to what drives them.
It'll only get worst as more people buy the product.
I feel really sorry for the casual customers. Average systems from Bestbuy, Stapples etc, are going to SUX running FSX. Most will shelve it or trade it for Battlefield2142. It costs twice as much as Battlefield too. I know which one I'd rather play right now.
Only Bush Flyers cruising above the willderness seem to be raving about it sofar.
For me it runs bearly ok. I'm a real high FPS whore; I need a min of 30 on finals or I'll whine
I've spent more time in the settings page than the cockpit.
ma specs: AMD FX57, 2GB ram & a NV-7800GTX

They are driven by age, or lack of I should say, I doubt most are old enough to buy a beer. I like how they regurgitate info they have read about how DX10 and Vista will change the world as we know it.george[flytampa] wrote:Hey Dan,

BTW, congatulations on reaching troll status over there. (according to them.) Off the subject: I beta tested BF 2142....it's awesome!! I'll definately be picking that one up on the 17th.george[flytampa] wrote:Hey Dan,

If aut0gen is an issue for FSX - I shouldn't worry at all. It's always looked absolutely cartoonish and unrealistic, so I usually turn it off. The same applies to FSX beta.
So, I think I may live easily with my 3.2/2GBRAM and X800/256 vcard until Vista arrives.
What concerned me is a lack of AI tools such as AFCAD and TTools and barely visible perspectives that we'll see these tools soon enough. Even if I had E6900 on P5W MB, I'm not sure that I would switch to FSX. No updates from LVD, PMDG, PIC737...No updates from Scenery Designers including FlyTampa.

Ok, first the performance issues go much deeper than autogen. Sure, that's one of the issues but there are more. As for you living with your current system...that's fine. But what do you think is going to happen when Vista comes out? You don't think that all of a sudden performance will be great do you? As for the lack of tools think about this...those tools were created by enthusiasts not Microsoft. So you have to give developers time to get this stuff together. They are working on it, look at FSDeveloper.com. Finally, the no updates from current developers...you're kidding right? The freaking sim isn't even officially released yet. Have you read through the SDK? There are changes...some of them pretty major. As it stands the new model exporter doesn't even work with Gmax only with 3DS Max. Do you have the $3500 that this software retails for? Yeah, neither do most developers. Remember, alot of developers are just regular people like you and me that do design in there own time. Long story short....be patient.Dimon wrote:If aut0gen is an issue for FSX - I shouldn't worry at all. It's always looked absolutely cartoonish and unrealistic, so I usually turn it off. I didn't say "no updates at all". I just say it takes longer than it was with FS8-FS9 transition. We need Martin or George gere to confirm, but I'm afraid the ALL of FT products made for FS9 will be unusable for FSX due to drastic changes in FSX XML code. That's what I read at various developer's forums.
When Vista arrive, I'll wait for a couple of weeks and do an upgrade. Perhaps, either old hardware will be chepaper or new more powerful stuff will be available on the market. $1.700 is already accumulated and marked as "unrestricted cash" in my budget.
. I don't plan to change PSU (~800W), new HD (350GB), new DVD-R combo and good-ol box.

I have almost the same system as you do, but do not have FSX yet, planning on buying it though, as some of the new features look great... I have some issues with FS9, which I think is the result of landclass problems (UT) and FS overload due to textures and AI at times... I've read you mention that FSX does not address any FS9 problems- is this true?
Boaz.
Again how do you know it takes longer...it's not released yet. The people that have it now, like me, got it by mistake. As for FS8 to FS9 most sceneries worked with no modification because the new version of the exporter (makemdl) wasn't that different. The new exporter (xtomdl), as I've already said doesn't even work with Gmax. So right now we're still waiting on Microsoft.Dimon wrote:I didn't say "no updates at all". Dan, relax...it's not AVSIM and we're not teenagers (as I hope)skydvdan wrote:Again how do you know it takes longer...it's not released yet. The people that have it now, like me, got it by mistake. Sorry, I'm still fired up about the discussions with George at Avsim as you obviously recognized. Thanks for bringing me back.Dimon wrote:Dan, relax...it's not AVSIM and we're not teenagers (as I hope)skydvdan wrote:Again how do you know it takes longer...it's not released yet.
