General FSX:SE/system specs
Hi all,
If this is the end of FS9 support, what's the best way to get more fps from FSX? What gets lost by turning scenery complexity down? Little reason for a detailed airport, only to have to lose it all for performance.
What system upgrades would give a good performance increase? Currently on about 15-18 fps at Vienna, so Toronto/Sydney would be a bad idea for now.
Cheers.
Win 8.1 64bit
i7 - 4790
GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB
16 GB Memory

Re: General FSX:SE/system specs
In the FSX settings, make sure you turn off Bloom, Ground scenery cast shadows & move the water slider to the middle.

What clock speed is your i7 running at. What other addons do you use?cbsteven78 wrote:Hi all,

Re: General FSX:SE/system specs
i7 - 4790. So, about 3.7 GHz?
Turned off Bloom and fps doubled. Toronto gives 18 fps, so just about acceptable. Thanks, George.
See if I can get a faster card, without losing my warranty.

Re: General FSX:SE/system specs
If your processor is a K model I would get a good cooler and overclock your CPU to 4.5Ghz if not a little higher. I'm not sure what speeds people are getting out of them but I'm sure they're hitting at least 4.5 since it Turbo Boosts to 4.4. I know the 750Ti isn't the best card out there but I'm not sure how much upgrading it would increase your FPS with FSX.cbsteven78 wrote:i7 - 4790. So, about 3.7 GHz?

Re: General FSX:SE/system specs
The video card is pretty weak considering the awesome CPU.. Overclock the cpu to see some gains out of it.. So many people buying K model cpu's that never overclock them. Follow the herd is such a waste.

I'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to make, but FSX relies more on the CPU than the GPU.Dave_YVR wrote:The video card is pretty weak considering the awesome CPU.. Re: General FSX:SE/system specs
Of course it does, but having a lower end GPU doesn't exactly help matters. The CPU makes FSX run well, and the GPU makes it look good.
One of my point's I though was fairly clear was where I said "Overclock the cpu to see some gains out of it.."
