Approach lights

Post by Tatu » Mon Nov 03, 2014 2:57 am

Hi.

Very nice scenery! Thank you.

I noticed though that the approach lights have strobe lights in the scenery.
ICAO calvert I and II type lights usually do not have strobes. Are you sure they exist at EKCH?
Thanks.

Affirmed, also checked landing videos from the actual airport and the landing light system does not feature the so called "running rabbit" light

The videos will not necessarily give the right answer, because the strobes (if they exist) are not always switched on.
You can see here the Calvert category I, II and III lights: http://www.servetbasol.com/articles/ucuyorum/ALS.jpg
These usually do not have strobes. (ALSF 1 and 2 lights may have strobes installed, but not always.)

Looking at the charts of EKCH I think none of the runways have strobe lights included in the approach lights. However runways 12 and 22R have flashing runway end identifier lights. (REIL lights)

Well the answer is.......... RWY 04L has the ALSF-II as well as 22L and 04R has almost the same system SSALF. All encompassing the RABBIT style lights.

Link is here http://airportguide.com/airport/Denmark ... unways.php

ALSF-II link ; http://www.flightlight.com/airportlight ... A/H06.html

Wikipedia info link; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Approach_lighting_system

As FSX AFCADs do not differentiate with the conditions or weather. They are modeled always on which would not happen in real life.
I hope this helps.

Hello guys,

The approach lights are as follows according to the current AIP and my own eyes as a RW pilot :D

There are NO "Rabbit lights" at EKCH (sequenced flashing lights).
RWY 12-30 has ICAO-1 CAT I lights - in Jeppesen they are called HIALS
RWY 22L has ICAO-2 CAT II/III lights - in Jeppesen they are called HIALS II
All other has ICAO-2 CAT II lights - in Jeppesen they are called HIALS II

All are 900 meters long except for 04R which is 720 M. All are LIH (Light Intensity High)
RWY TDZ lights on 22L and 04L only.

Well I guess Jeppesen does not lie. Odd, I found another site that says that there are ALSF-2 lights as
well.

http://www.airport-data.com/world-airports/EKCH-CPH/

Seems like we have conflicting data. regardless, FlyTampa modeled in.

Well, I think Danes know best how their airport are lit. So AIP Denmark is correct.
As Saabpilot confirmed, no rabbit lights (strobes or sequenced flashing lights). Otherwise FlyTampa modeled the lights correctly.

Marvic, you can check some videos on YouTube if you want to. They clearly show that the lights are not ALFS-2 type. The links also don't look like official information so I would not consider them as a good source.
