What are your thoughts?

Post by Lude2Envy » Mon Oct 07, 2013 6:06 pm

I was wondering if Martin and George would be interested in sharing their thoughts on P3D 2.0 and the future of FT sceneries?

I was surprised they made so much great progress, as I've become accustom to being disappointed whenever a new version of FS comes out.

Both myself & Martin have been very impressed with it so far & I hope it keeps you all interested in this platform for another decade. Maybe it'll even uproot those stubborn Fs9 guys into switching??
We can all forget about that horrid Dx10 Preview now too :)

That's great news! Will the current FT FSX sceneries transfer nicely in 2.0?

There's a few issues right now but I'm sure we can iron them out.

NEVER!!! LOL

To be honest I will more then likely skip straight to this platform from FS9 when the time is right and skip straight past (that buggy, pain in the backside ;P) FSX...

It's equally good news to hear that both of you guys are still motivated to continue on a new platform!

Some of the new features look stunning, way better then anything I've seen in "Flight" :)

Looks like it. The Team at LM is doing an excellent job with developer relations.

Excellent!!! One thing I noticed is there's no mention of a 64-bit engine. Will the DX11 support and increased utilization of the GPU significantly reduce the likelihood of OOMs?

L.M. has stated a 64-bit engine will not be likely for some time. L.M. is focusing on cleaning up and improving code before even thinking of doing it. It is a massive undertaking.

Those that have an in-depth understanding of how DX11 works say it will be very good at reducing the likelihood of OOM's, better than improved results with DX10. I'm sure there will still be a possibility of it occurring though depending on settings and how many complex add-ons are used simultaneously. It will be a good stop-gap measure in the meantime until a 64-bit conversion is feasible and can be achieved.

Cheers,
Thad
