Kinda boring. Too much taxiing and not enough anything else.

Thanks for commenting. The goal was to show performance, not an edited movie.

Even the performance wasn't off the charts. What is the fps around 25? What are the system specs and what are your settings?

I have everything on max. It is not so much alienware delivering but the configuration made by FSGS, a company that configures your flight simulator.

I don't think there a computer out there capable of delivering 100% performance with everything on max. I'd be happy to show you some screen shots of the settings. I must also say that cities like New York, San Francisco, LA etc hit a ceiling in terms of performance. You cannot have all the add ons like Manhattan X, FS Dream Team Kennedy, Ultimate Terrain X. Ground Environment, Active Sky, Extreme Environment and FRAPS on and expect no lag issues. I'd would really like to see a video with all these goodies on and on max and see a smooth performance. Would you care to share a screen shot with us?

I have seen the video, in fact it is one of my favorites. It is an edited video and IF you think this is how his computer performs you are in for big surprise. I want to see and unedited video, take off from Kennedy international, Ultimate Traffic (on), Ultimate Ground Environment (on), Active Sky (on), Ultimate Terrain USA (on), FS Dream Team JFK (on). His video does not tell the whole story, my friend. He is selecting portions and putting them together at the end. Why don't you show us your unedited video? I'd like to see you fly over Manhattan with your and I want to see a real ground, as NYC should be. Then we can talk about specs.

Why so defensive? I asked for your system specs and you start in on this ridiculous explanation and trickery. Are you ashamed of what you purchased or how you paid too much for it?

My system specs:
ASUS SABERTOOTH P67
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (Burst 3.8GHz)
2X EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Intel i7 2600K
16GB CORSAIR Vengeance DDR3 1600
CORSAIR H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
LG Blu-ray burner
Corsair 750w PS
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Mate – I am not trying to promote alienware computers. While alienware makes the best off the shelve computers, I believe they are over price. You should consider Aliwenware if (a) you have the resources to spend, and (b) if you do not have the technical expertise to build your own.

The point I was trying to make earlier is that you hit a ceiling in FSX no matter what computer you have. These videos you see out there can be deceiving because they are edited. No computer in the world can run without a lag in a place like New York or Los Angeles (to name a few) and have all these horrible add-ons (which some are beautiful I have to admit) but destroy your performance. The guy who made the New York video (if honest) can tell you how FXS really works.
I’ll leave you with a video I just made it for the sake of this argument.

There are some edits because I needed to cut it short. But this is how my computer looks in Los Angeles (one of the worst places for flying). You will see some lag (I don’t hide it), but over all I promise you that any computer out there will have a lag when flying in LA and with all the add-ons and settings I have. I also have FRAPS running which is a frame killer. In the video I am setting up for landing at Los Angeles International.

Lastly, the person responsible for setting up my alienware is a Microsoft engineer who knows FSX very well. I hired him to configure my machine for FSX and I am super happy for the performance. His name is Michael and the name of the company is FSGS - http://www.fs-gs.com/index.html

Best,

I like your response. It says exactly what my point is, which is that there is no computer that "destroys" FSX. If your post title was "FSX even destroys my new kickass alienware" then I wouldn't have given you any grief. But the title you posted suggested that an alienware computer is the solution for FSX stellar performance. Is performance better with your computer.... yes, of course. I haven't even overclocked mine yet and it's better than it was but it's still not "awesome" perfformance. My biggest performance hit comes from AI traffic thanks to Ultimate Traffic 2.

What addons are in the video? I think I see Megascenery Earth (California) and FSDT LAX?

I was just trying to be provocative with the subject. I knew it was going to create an itch.

You are correct, there is not computer in the world capable of defeating FSX with all these add-ons.

I overclocked my computer this past weekend even further. I went from 4.1Ghz to 4.5Ghz and I think I'll stay there for now. There isn't a significant improvement but it is noticeable. My computer specs are as follow:

Alienware Aurora-R3
Intel Core i7-2600K (8MB Cache) Overclocked Turbo Boost to 4.1GHz (now overclocked to 4.5Ghz)
16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
1 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
1 2TB ( 2x 1TB) SATA II (3Gb/s) 7,200RPM (2 x 32MB Cache)
1 Matte Stealth Black Alienware Aurora w/ 875W Multi-GPU Approved PSU

You are correct about the add-on. It is Mega scenery California and the airport is LAX International by FS Dream Team (check it out). Scenery is beautiful but it is also huge!

Looking at your processor, you can push that baby way above 3.8Ghz. You may have to look into your 750W, is it enough?

I am new to this overclock business and one thing is certain - monitor the temperature and do a stress test. Do small increments. There a guy in Spain who helped me with me. We did a Skype conference and overclocked this baby. Intel sustain a lot of of heat so push him.

I've been thinking about the overclocking since I bought the liquid cooler it shouldn't be that difficult. I'll get around to it eventually. Did you try FSX both before and after the overclock? If so, did you see a difference in FPS (3-5 fps would be pretty significant.)

I measured the FPS in NYC before the overclock and after the overclock. I also flew around the same area with the same settings. By going to 4.5Ghz from 4.1Ghz I noticed a boost of about 3 fps. With this particular overclock there was a noticeable difference but not a dramatic change. Now, if you go from 3.8Ghz to 4.5Ghz, you might see a world of difference. How high are you planning to go? Want to really push it?
