Vienna V2 upgrade FS9 - no more moving vehicle traffic

Post by Lee James » Wed Jun 09, 2010 9:52 am

Hi,

Just bought the upgrade for FS9 to the FlyTampa Vienna product. The version 1 install had various vehicles driving about the airport - buses, tugs, etc.

Installed the upgrade over the top of the initial version and found that although the scenery is still stunning, the airport is dead quiet - no more moving vehicles!

Checked my settings and yes I have not changed anything and still have Dynamic Scenery enabled.

Checked my scenery.cfg and found two entries for the same scenery! I removed the entry for the original scenery, loaded FS9 and still the same problem.

I then un-installed the earlier version completely and then ran just the V2 installer as it seems that this is all that is needed. I reloaded FS9 and still no moving vehicles.

I checked the SCENERY folder of the original FlyTampa-Vienna installation from a backup and found that in the original version, there are two Vehicle_Anim.bgl files. There seems to be no such file(s) in the new V2 installation.

I note that several bits have been removed from the new version which was recompiled but there is no mention of moving ground vehicles - only that one should use AES for service traffic (which I don't use for reasons I cannot go into here).

Is this correct that there are no more moving vehicles? Did I do right in removing the old scenery and installing the V2 straight from new and NOT over the top of the old one?

Thanks for your kind help,

Regards,

Lee James

Yes thats correct. Martin stated that he removed the animated traffic due to conflicts with the default FSX apron traffic!

Hmm... thats a pity. Was it not possible to leave the traffic in the FS9 version, I wonder?

Thanks for that.

I hope FT isn't doing what FSDT said - getting rid of the traffic in FS9 because its more work then putting them in the FSX version. :?

No harm intended...

Its not just more work its becoming increasing difficult.
We upgraded to 3ds Max9 from Max7 & unfortunately our exporters for fs9 don't seem to export the animation data anymore through max9. For Boston I think I had to use THREE 3d packages to get the animations working, MAX9, MAYA & then back to GMAX. It took a day to figure out how to export some crappy car animations. I don't think our Max9 license allows us to use Max7 & Max9 simultaneously & we are unlikly to give up Max9 because it offers some great workflow improvements.

FS9 is going to get left behind at some point in the future, so be glad its just a few car animations being occluded right now.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you sticking with fs9 so long? CPUs are fast enough to run FSX (today) better than they could FS9 (pre-FSX). I'm not knocking FS9, just curious.

For me it is simple...cost. Sure the price is coming down from $1000+ to around $1000 (for a customized computer, not build-it-your-own). But I bought my computer just ahead of all the advancements with the processors so I was caught with bad timing. Spent a good penny on my system and very quickly it was out of date. Now it is a matter of living with what I have and down the line just going for the top of the line.

I am also heading off to college and leaving the flight sim. hobby behind as there is no way in hell I am bringing my joystick.

AI. I cannot imagine flying in FS without AI. No matter what I try in FSX, I cannot get a fluid flying experience with 100% AI and most of my aiports are filled with close to 100% real world traffic that serves a given airport.

I have a fairly decent machine (i7 950 @ 4Ghz, 2 GTX 285s in SLI) and yet whenever I approach a major airport in FSX, it ineviteably stutters and convulses making any sort of landing nothing short of impossible.

The difference in FPS between, say, FSDT's JFK in FS9 and FSX with the exact same AI present is nothing short of staggering, I get between 30-35fps on approach in FS9 vs 9-12fps in FSX. Unfortunately for AI nuts, there still are no machines fast enough.
