avsim hacked!

just got news that avsim has been hacked!

Why would someone do this.... I can understand if they Hacked a bank, or a government website. But why AVSIM? They had nothing to gain by doing this!!!!

sadley yes

they had two servers (one was the main one and the other was a backup) and the hacker hacked both of them. also is anyone else not being able to go on the PMDG website? not PMDG

I don't want to speculate or libel anybody, so just read the thread on the temp forums called "The Spamming Incident - Facts" and make your own speculations.
I got 2 or 3 of those spam emails, but hit delete without looking or reading them since the pmdg is of no interest to me. Funny that the guy is trying to say it's not spam since it's about flight sim and a product that may interest us, spam is spam, period.

right now the forum is crazy and has 40 members online and 71 guests. (3 of the people i know) i was on the avsim website there yesturday about 3 hours before they reported the hack and shut down the website and i noticed the updated files on the front page and when i clicked on them it would have the description, author, etc but were the picture was it would say something like "file not found." when i clicked "download file" on accouple files on the website it would give me a message that had something to do with some files not being able to be shown and something about fs2004. every 20 minutes or so i would check again to see if the files were back with no luck. then i tried to bring up the website this morning and got a broken link error and found out the terrible news on the simflight forums. does anyone else remember a message of that type? i also noticed a lot of spam messages and the forum was running a lot slower than normal.

PMDG forum will be down as long as AVSIM is down. AVSIM is the Host for the PMDG forum.

I'm sure there are countless people that have been either banned or flamed over at Avsim that could be held responsible. There are alot of people at avsim that made alot of enemies.

i too was on the site trying to download some woai files and got the same messages. "oops file not found" and when i clicked download i got a message about Fs2004 repaints or aircraft...something along those lines. really sad to hear, i read on the aerosoft forums it even made the BBC news. all the best to avism
