[Problem solved] Seems I have a memory leak on Kai Tak!

Hi,

Flytampa Kai Tak is by far the best scenery I am flying over in FS9. I am very impressed.

Nevertheless, I am in trouble to fully enjoy the scenery. I am having total freezing of FS (without any message) or CTD with "unsufficient memory" message after a while enjoying flying around or just spotting AI.

It seems to happen unrelated to what acft I am flying and for what I know when starting from VHHX (I have not try yet coming from another apt and I was always flying in a 15-20 NM perimeters. I am currently following an AI coming from Taipei to see if I have it).

So I made a little test, using a traffic viewer (AI board) with 100% traffic I was watching AI at VHHX and switching to Task Manager to check Memory usage. (I have 2go) I could see that memory usage was increasing slowly with time until reaching 1.85 go and freezing the game totally. I tried Traffic at 20% but nothing changed. (After all I had it before having the AI when I had first install Static aircraft).
I tried in exactly the same conditions on others busy airport, Vienna with 100% traffic=no problem, memory is stabilising around 1go and does not increase with time. Same test in the scenery of Taipei that I just installed few days before Kai Tak and same result as Vienna no problems at all. I have only a few sceneries in Japan and the taipei one in the Asia area.

So I wonder where is the problem. I have reinstalled the scenery and gave a try to the patch for memory fix I found in a precedent topic but it did not hange anything.
I don't know if it can be usefull but after the "insufficent memory" message, I had the error message that told me FS had closed. So I click to see what is the module related to the problem: G2D.dll It is maybe a coincidence but that's the same dll that causes so much problems with the Flightsceney Portland ( and only this scenery) although it happens in different conditions there. But maybe it is not related.

So, what can I do? For now I can have only 20 or 30 min to enjoy the senery but I can say that it is the grestest scenery ever!

The memory leak problem we did have wasn't spitting out an 'low on memory message'. It usually just crashed to desktop with the 'FS has closed message'.

You say your system freezes up. This could be heat related. Have you checked the CPU, GPU & system temps under-load while FS is running?

Try modifying your windows virtual memory. Or let XP/Vista manage it.

Check HK_LC.bgl is NOT present in the Hongkong/scenery folder.

Thank you for your response George.

At least, I think I have a problem with the kai tak scenery because I gave another try today and it freezed again with the insufficient memory message.
It should be my system specs but I doubt. I tried on a very resources eater airport, Simwings Paris CDG+Paris photoreal scenery+PMDG 744+100% traffic: The fps went low of course but no problems at all with memory :?

-I checked for BGL and it is not in there. That's ok for this.

-About virtual memory, I don't know what it mean so I prefer let Windows (by the way Vista) doing that. Or if there is a simple tweak of course I should give a try?

-About system temperature, where can I check this? I have doubt about this but I think I should have look

Also I will try to redownload the installer!

Try the newly posted 1.1 Update sticky. The original Mem_Fix patch had some issues in that it didn't fix the leak 100%. This new 1.1 one should be bullet proof as far as the memory-leak (PF size increasing without end).

IS this only for FS9?

I had my FSX freeze twice... Hmmm...

Ok! Problem solved! I ran the patch and all is ok now :D
Thank you very much Flytampa! The best support ever!

By the way, I wonder about one thing: What are the differences in the textures between Kai Tak and the others Flytampa sceneries?
St Marteen or Flytampa textures are flickering a little but that's not the case with Kai Tak. Not an issue at all for me of course, I just wonder.

Thanks again, with Kai Tak you choosed the more interesting airport in the world
