Missing Buildings KMIA after changing view in FS2004

Post by OhJay » Tue Oct 14, 2003 9:23 am

Hi,

this airport is a great upgrade for FS2004, but I´ve got a problem. After changing the view from cockpit to outdoor and back there are some buildings missing. Everytime I change the viewoption there are more buildings missing. Seems to me that the texture of the buildings didn´t reload after changing the view.

So after six or seven changes you´ve got only aircrafts and some gates and a plain area. Some ideas?

Thanx,

OhJay :(

This is very strange, did you ever notice this sort of behavior elsewhere (other sceneries)? What kind of graphics-card and gfx-RAM do you have? Do the building's textures disappear completely (making them a solid color), do they just look blurred or does the whole building vanish? Does the same thing happen with the ground textures... e.g. do areas of the pavement disappear or stay green?

From what I understand when you first load the game everything is there, does it also stay there when you don't change the view but move/slew around for some time?

No this happend only at KMIA. I used a Radeon 9700pro and 512MB PC800 Rambus.

"Do the building's textures disappear completely (making them a solid color), do they just look blurred or does the whole building vanish?"

Yes the buildings disappear completely, you can look right thru them. The trees, airplanes, gates and ground texture are right on place.

"From what I understand when you first load the game everything is there, does it also stay there when you don't change the view but move/slew around for some time?"

You´ve got it, as long as I didn´t change the view everthing is right on place.

Alright, it sure doesn't seem related to any hardware limitation. Is this happening with a specific plane, have you tried it with a default 737 or cessnas as well?

Sorry I can't track the problem down more easily, the only way to do that will be trough some test. I don't really think it is a matter of textures as you already pointed out because when a texture doesn't load the building should be there, just in a plain color (but not transparent).

Have you noticed if things disappear in a certain order or does that happen randomly. Is it always the same buildings that disappear (all of them?), or are there some buildings that "stay in place" no matter what (incl control towers, hangars etc).

This is very odd indeed, I sent you an email so we can start look into the problem specifically and test some replacement files.

Same issue here

Post by JPL19 » Sat Oct 18, 2003 8:20 am

I would like to add that I am experiencing the same issue. One common theme is the I also have a RADEON 9700Pro. (1gig RAM, P4 3G). I also can have a problem with just starting at MIA, for instance, the both towers may be missing except for the glass in mid air when starting at MIA. Seems the disappering textures happen often along the north side where all the construction is.

The problem has persisted through two different driver versions (3.7 official and the latest Omega betas).

Thanks.

Joe, send an email to you as well. I don't think the ATI 9700 is the problem, I use one of those myself.

Hi Martin,

After reading in your email that you use a Radeon also I began tinkering with my settings, and seemed to have identified a possible solution for others to try.

In display properties/settings/advanced under 3d settings it seems I can eliminate the problem by setting TEXTEURE PREFERENCE to HIGH QUALITY. Any other setting of that slider shows the problem (I orginially used "QUALITY"). I've toyed with it for a little while now and have not had the problem re-occure at the HIGH QUALITY setting.

Hope it works for everyone, thanks for the quick and friendly support!

Glad to hear that this was the problem, I started to wonder after you showed me those screenshots with semi-translucent (but still textured) jetways. That really looked a lot like a gfx-card issue.

I did some test with my Radeon9700, but I don't get the same effect no matter what settings I use. Maybe its a different driver version of the fact that I also run other/multiple gfx cards.

If anyone still has this problem despite the graphic ATI card settings, please let me know. I have an alternative "fix" that might solve the problem.

Hi Martin,

thanks for your help by mail, but the other texture file didn´t work. The idea with the graphic card settings is great, I´ve got my Radeon 9700pro also on "Quality" Settings (ATI Driver Rev. 3.8), after changing to "High Quality" everthing works fine. The same problem appears at HALO, changing the settings of the graphic card works here too.

Thanks,
