Missing lights

Post by howiehobbit » Sun Jul 05, 2020 6:55 am

Hi all,

Hope you're all doing well. Just wondering if someone might be able to help me. I see to be missing a fair few lights for my Kai Tak which I've installed on P3D 4.5. Wondering if anyone else is having the same issues?

I saw a thread with a new set of runway lights which I know will solve that issue.

But what about the approach bar lights, as I'm missing both sets of approach bar lights.

Many thanks in advance!

For completeness, this is the view I get during the day. Definitely looks as if I'm missing quite a few lights.

Would be grateful if anyone can help.

Many thanks.

As an update: I've cloned the approach lights to make them a bit brighter, and used the file which Martin posted to give the runway lights, but still nothing in terms of the approach bars though.

I tried cloning kt_appr13_bar1_lib.bgl and kt_appr13_bar2_lib.bgl thinking maybe they were just a bit dim, but still no approach bar lights.

You installed the latest version of VHHX using the Universal Installer? (Not some older FSX version)

In some of your screenshots i think i see some of the LDIN flashing lights ner the runway. For example screenshot download/file.php?id=7580
the right dot in front of the runway, right on top of the building roof, does that dot flash or is it constant? The rows of "bar lights" note they only come on if you change to nighttime and click apply, they don't come on if you only use time-preview, it requires the apply/reload.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your reply. I used the Universal Installer to install the Kai Tak scenery. In terms of the LDIN lights, they flash in sequence. I tried to load up at night again, and definitely the two sets of approach bar lights are still missing.

I recorded a quick vid of what I see happening for reference.

Many thanks for looking into this for me.

Hi all, and Martin again.

Just as an update - I was watching another vid of a Kai Tak landing, and another user appears to be also missing the two sets of approach bar lighting.

Thanks again.

Sorry the late reply, I had to dig into source files to see how those lights were placed. Check if you have these files:
KaiTak/scenery/kt_appr13_bar1_lib.bgl
KaiTak/scenery/kt_appr13_bar2_lib.bgl
KaiTak/scenery/kt_appr13_halo_lib.BGL

KaiTak/scenery/kt_appr13_halos.BGL

Because you see the metal structures for the light bars on the roofs, it can only be a light halo issue. The bars and the lights are the same library object. And looking at my screenshot below, the lights on the bar (their halo texture) is exactly the same as the approach light bars on the runway, marked red in my shot. it is very weird that you would see one but not the other. Maybe slew around in angles similar to my shot to check if the halos are being hidden by building polyons. One way is to slew below so you would see a light halo directly against the sky .

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the reply. I've checked and I have all of the files which you listed. I also double checked by slewing around, and there are no halos from the bar structures, even when angled against the sky. Have attached screenshots for your reference.

Many thanks.

Also, try the attached lua script replacing the one in /kaitak/scripts/

This will make the runway lights always on (daytime as well), let me know if it has any effect on the light bars.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your replies. Just reporting back that the file in the scripts folder was actually named fthalos1.lua. I simply renamed it as vhhx_fthalos1.lua and the approach lights and bars are all on during both day AND night now! YAY!!!

Thanks for looking into this and finding a solution! =)

It all looks pretty now!

I just uploaded a new version 2.2 of KaiTak you can install with the universal Installer. It should fix this and turn all lights except the flashing strobes off during daytime as well.

Does it need to uninstall the previous version first in order to install the new version 2.2?
