FLYTAMPA AMSTERDAM XP12 TERRIBLE FPS

Post by VTCH » Tue Jan 16, 2024 8:36 am

Hello. I can barely get 20-30fps in this scenery. There are immense frame drops when you also look in a certain direction. This scenery has been out for such a long time and many people have the same issue. When will there be an update? It is barely flyable. And if you fly the wrong plane, the scenery is unflyable.

Disregard this post. After some research I have found out that this is a Laminar Research problem. X-Plane 12 has some issues with performance surrounding the Netherlands because of the many small waterways or something like that. I replaced the +50+000 folder in Global Scenery from X-Plane 11 in X-Plane 12, and the performance is much better now. There is also another fix where you can use Ortho4XP.

Small Update:
The fix I mentioned works partially. When I spawn on FlyTampa Amsterdam XP12, and I look to the direction of the city, my frames drop to 15fps for a few seconds. After about 10 seconds my frames go back up to 30-40fps, when still looking in that direction. There is definitely something up with FlyTampa Amsterdam for XP12, because once I disabled the scenery, everything was very smooth.

Same here. I get the FPS drops too, with a 3060Ti. I think it's a Vulkan thing, where the sim takes a while to load high res textures and downscale them a bit. What's your GPU and texture level? There's a lot of surrounding buildings too, that you can see from a fair distance away. Handling those puts more use on the system. Maybe we need an option to remove those? It's a dense area anyway, so really tests performance.

I read a while ago this can be fixed by replacing the X-Plane 12 Global Scenery (+52+000 tile I think) with the one from X-Plane 11 Global Scenery. Or you can also download an Ortho tile for that region but you will have to set a certain setting from (default 0.001 I think) to 0.1 . i remember it had something to do with the water ways that somehow are much harder on the system in X-Plane 12.
