Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
I was very pleased to see this airport get released by FlyTampa but the framerates and stuttering is a problem. The trend I'm seeing is developers are now modeling the inside of terminals which is nice in some cases but when you just want a good airport this is not needed. Most of us are in the aircraft trying to get to the gate and out from the runway. We could care less if every seat in modeled within the buildings. This is especially true for VR usage. Give us the option to only have the external buildings and not the inside modeled. I first tried this out in VR and found constant loading of textures. So I tried it in 2D thinking it's an other VR optimization that's needed for this scenery. The airport performs not that much better in 2D. So all in all if internal modeling of terminals is at play give us the option not to use that version (this is especially true for VR users) but if this is an effort that needs more optimization in general by all means please update. As of now this airport give FSX performance in a otherwise smooth sim.

The internals won't make a frame rate difference. I'm not a fan of internals but reviewers would slam me for not having them.
|The performance I thought was very good on my rig. Max out it runs at 50-60fps. On the minimum gfx setting 100+
What kind of video card and cpu do you have.

Exactly the same for me. With an Intel i9 10850 and a Nvidia 3090.
I can confirm, this is not a problem with my computer, msfs2020 neither. Other sceneries work fine.
Is there a conflict with another scenery ?
Boston scenery bought on Orbx Central E-shop.

Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
I'm using a 10900k, 3090 FE and 64GB Ram and don't have any issues with FPS, but I did limit my FPS to 30 some time ago and since then the sim has been 'butter' smooth for me. I do fly the A32NX pretty much 100% of the time, so don't really need a high FPS, just want a smooth experience.
Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
Runs great for me 45fps and I can only dream of a 3090.
You guys probably bloated up the system somehow.

Anybody using this scenery in VR?
Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
Decreasing Terrain LOD helps !
Tested with this scenery only, in my community folder.
But why such problem with this scenery, specifically ?

Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
I'm running a i9 9900k at 5.1 GHz, and an RTX3090. Showing a severe limited by mainthread (~60 ms) when parked at the gate in the FBW A32NX. With this same set-up I get just shy of 40 fps at CYYZ. Using ultra settings and LOD 180. Setting terrain LOD to 100 does not change the 16 fps on average I am getting at gate B28.
Update: Just installed SU9. Im not sure if the issue was SU8 or the fact that I had arrived in KBOS after a 6 hour flight, but now my frames at B28 are at about 30 fps. Perhaps the issue is with the sim itself and performance degradation over the course of a flight?

Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
It certainly degrades after a flight. It has since fs9.
I'm working on a massive performance patch. Don't know it it will make a difference but on paper its a VRAM saving on nearly 500mb.
A few more tricks on going.
I noticed while testing, the TIN / Photogrammetry gobbles up a massive amount of VRAM even without the scenery. Reducing texture resolution in the settings helps bring down VRAM.
In other news, the Return to menu CTD has been fixed. It was caused by ASOBO's new Vector tool.

Really happy to hear it! Shameless request to release CYUL soon :Pgeorge[flytampa] wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 3:13 pm I'm working on a massive performance patch. Don't know it it will make a difference but on paper its a VRAM saving on nearly 500mb.

Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
All great news! Thanks so much for such a great add-on! This is my first FlyTampa purchase and I love it, despite the few glitches. Looking forward to the next release! Any chance there will be an option or documented way to disable some of the objects/features in this mod? I also have purchased the rkbridger-boston-and-cape-cod-canal-bridges-and-water-fixes module from the MSFS store, and would love to have their Tobin bridge/Boston Harbor Marine Terminal cranes along with some of the bridges that package has in the East Boston/Chelsea area.george[flytampa] wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 3:13 pm ...

Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
I get a pretty big performance hit towards the back of the airport by the Delta gates. They also don’t seem to work well with ground service tools. Running a R7 3700x, RTX 3080TI, 64GB RAM at 4K Ultra. 200 on the LODs and 100 on render scale. It’ll drop to below 20fps. Today at the C gates was hovering around 26fps. These gates worked well with the ground service tools.
Also as a side note I noticed a bump in runway 4R on the take off roll, may be worth testing and checking it out, but it could’ve been my system since it’s the first time I noticed it. I had only landed on it before not taken off.

Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
I just purchased Boston yesterday on Orbx , Version 1.1. in MSFS SU9 the airport consistently CTD's after ever take off. I even flew from a neighboring airport to Boston and as soon as I hit the Boston harbor area CTD. Would someone help please. Thank you.

Re: Boston for FS2020 hard on framerates
I've not had a consistent CTD problem other than while loading. Once loaded it loads, its usually really stable.
If running a lot of utils, AI, complex AC, try without. Check system isn't over heating or out of VRAM.
What are your system specs?
