Runway lights always on during day time

Post by GCRR » Thu May 07, 2020 7:49 pm

Hi,
i´m performing a fresh install of P3DV4.5(HF3). So, just installed LOWW (V3.0) with the Universal installer, wich btw. worked flawlessly the last time and after firing up P3D at LOWW, all runway lights are on (not the taxiways though). This happens at any time during the day , with clear skies and without weather or shader addon installed, yet.
so i uninstalled it and reinstalled the latest version (supposed to be only for P3D5) and with the same result.
I tried the same procedure with KBOS, KLAS. Same problem. The only scenery working (no runway lights on) is EKCH latest version.
I´ve tried everything, even deleting the whole Flytampa folder, cleaning up Sode Files, reinstalled again,to no avail.
I´m quite buffled, have never seen this before and it does not happen at any other airport. I don´t know, if the runway lights are SODE controlled or by AFCAD, maybe there´s something wrong
My SODE version is 1.68 with VDGS-Pack installed.
I´d really appreciate your help and feedback, as i´m stuck right now.

Many thanks in advance

Regards, Lars

As a test, extract the attached file to /FlyTampa/Vienna/scripts/
making sure the existing fthalos1.lua file is overwritten. Then test LOWW again.

Hi Martin,

unfortunately, the test-file did not solve the problem. Please see attached screenshots.
I´m using :
LOWW (V 3.0)

KLAS (V 1.1)

KBOS (V 4.2)

LGKR , EKCH (latest Versions) work perfectly, also EHAM, LGAV with installed patches.

Please, let me know, if you need me to test anything or if you need more information.

Thank you, regards

Some airports use Afcad Lights that always work, others use LUA script which is a feature introduced in P3Dv4.

Please extract again the attached fthalos1.lua into FlyTampa/Vienna/scripts/ overwriting the existing file. Also make sure when testing with the Time Preview feature, that you click apply. The lights won't change with just preview, it has to be applied.

Also, do you happen to use AIG for AI traffic?

Hi Martin,

many thanks for helping me out, unfortunately the latest "lua-file" gives me the same result : Runway lights always on !

Yes, i use AIG for traffic for quite some time now. Does AIG affect the runway lights ?

Quite possibly, I also have this issue reported with P3Dv5 and the only common factor sofar is the AIG AI. The other user in fact has the lights working when he turns AIG Traffic down/off. Note this is best described as a LUA script issue, not a runway light issue. There might be other sceneries' using LUA scripts for other things that could also be affected.

Attached the LOWW fthalos1.lua file in its original state in case you want to restore that and test without AIG.

Thanks Martin,

i´ll do some tests with AIG as you suggest and report back. The strange thing is that all the sceneries and AIG worked flawlessly together with P3D4.5HF2. Somehow i´ll figure out i guess :)

Thanks again for your prompt help and feedback.

Regards, Lars

EDIT:
(BTW : You were right Martin. Deactivating AIG, solves the issue. At least now, i know where to start troubleshooting)

I have been going through some testing now regarding this topic.

Made it in P3Dv4.5HF3.

Here are the results:

1) AIG AI + FT CYYZ: Runway Lights on.
2) No AIG AI + FT CYYZ: No Runway Lights on.
3) AIG AI (minus the AIG LUA scripts) + FT CYYZ: Runway Lights on.

Could it be a P3Dv4.5HF3 bug?

Try also
4) No/Off AIG AI (minus the AIG LUA scripts) + FT CYYZ

I am not sure it would have to necessarily be a "bad" AIG lua script that would cause our lua scripts to break, could be something else. I looked at our own lua script (posted above if anyone wants to look) and don't see any "bad" code in it.

When I disabled the AIG AI it was everything including the LUA Scripts. They are linked into the game as a complete addon.xml including both SimObjects, texture, scripts, effects and sounds. So when that addon.xml is disabled the scripts from AIG AI is also disabled completely. The AI is actually installed in an independent folder outside the sim, so there is no AIG AI scripts in the P3D/scripts.

I've asked on the AIG forum (I'm admin there) if anyone using P3Dv4HF2 have the same problem. If that's not the case, then I'm 99.9% sure it's a P3Dv4.5HF3 bug (and maybe it's also in v5 too).

Can you try enabling the AIG addon xml but just turning down/off AI sliders ingame? I had users report that alone made our lights work/not work, so without removing AIG's addon xml.

If thats the case I would next try just removing the lua scripts from the folder and turn AI up again see what happens. If that makes a difference next step would be to actually look at each lua script in notepad.

I tried that yesterday (the sliders turned completely down) and it was the same. Runway lights was on.
I also tried to remove the LUA scripts form the AIG AI and the runway lights were still on. So it can't be the LUA scripts.
The AIG AI can be used with both payware AI models and freeware AI models. I'm personally on payware AI models, and those models have been known to give problems ins sceneries before, because the modeller uses Z-bias data in his models. BUT one of our users tested it yesterday. And with freeware models only. And he still had the runway lights on.

This problem was reported already back in February at the AIG forum. But we were and still is totally lost what's happening.

One of the authors of the LUA scripts wrote back then, that there shouldn't be any interference between the AIG LUA scripts and the FT LUA scripts:
The same issue is happening for me with FlyTampa's CYYZ ::confused::

FlyTampa is using Lua scripts to control the airfield lights, however the code used in the aircraft's Lua scripts should not interfere with FlyTampa's code as all of the variables are different. Since the regular model doesn't cause the problem, my theory is that there's currently a glitch in P3D with the way it is processing the scripts. I'll have a look though I'm not sure the issue can be resolved from our end.
Since then there have not been any changes.

So it really seems to be something we can't do anything about. It's a P3Dv4.5 (and maybe also v5?) problem. And then there is nothing we can do. Neither you or AIG.
