Active jetways

Post by moms the pilot » Sat Jan 07, 2006 5:33 pm

To george or martin
I was just wondering myself about the active jetways who are part of a lot of other sceneries I wanted to know if those jetties movements can hit the frame rates and maybe that's your secret to keep your sceneries frame rates very good while other developpers like simflyers sceneries have got awful fps ?
thankyou

Not trying to influence anyone's plans but I also would like to see animated gates. Adds to the realism. To me it seems if the gates ( animated ) are designated for the different sizes it would not be a problem. The only time the jetway would swing out is when you in your aircraft selects the frequency for that gate. The other thing you would have to do in AFCAD is to get it to have your aircraft specifically go to a specific gate. I have just began to read on how to do this in AFCAD and I am by no means a pro. All the AI aircraft I have seem to lineup pretty good to the gates with 3rd party airport afcads. This may be a lot of extra work it sounds like but it would be nice. Below is copy from a readme I have of an airport with animated gates. Some of you may have seen or have it.

SEVEN OF THE NINE GATES ARE ANIMATED..
THIS MEANS THAT, ONCE YOU HAVE STOPPED AT THE GATE..YOU CAN TUNE THE APPROPRIATE FREQ ON YOUR NAV2 RADIO AND YOU WILL SEE THE GATES MOVING AND FITTING YOUR AIRCRAFT..
BELOW IS A TABLE OF EACH GATES FREQ AND THE TYPE OF AIRCRAFT IT WORKS WITH
REMEMBER TO ONLY USE THE APPROPRIATE AIRCRAFT WITH THE GATE..OR IT WONT FIT..

GATE # NAV2 FREQ AIRCRAFT TYPE /
/ 2 112.10 HEAVYS' B767, A300 /
/ 3 112.20 HEAVYS' B767, A300 /
/ 4 112.30 MEDIUM, B757 /
/ 5 112.40 SMALL, B737, A320, A319, MD80S' /
/ 6 112.50 SMALL, B737, A320, A319, MD80S' /
/ 7 112.60 SMALL, B737, A320, A319, MD80S' /
/ 8 112.70 SMALL, B737, A320, A319, MD80S'

IMHO, animated gates are not realistic. When is the last time you've seen an airline pilot tune his nav2 radio to get the gate to the door? Beside that, the gates in simflyers sceneries are not animated, they just appear along with the 'armada' and thats it. Not too realistic if you ask me, and definatly not worth the time and effort to make it.

Cheers,
Nick

No runway elevation ever in FS2004.

Animated jetways do nothing for me; so maybe when hell freezes over or FSX ships with decent GMAX tools.

I don't think too there's a real need for animated jetties , the only request I have is if you can positionnate the end of the jetway nearer from the centerline because when ya follow this one , there's a gap between your aicraft's door and the jetty , and like you will feel like you 're in a docked position and if you can add more static or animated ground vehicles or freight and luggage containers near the aicrafts stands it would be very appreciated thankyou
So keep doing good sceneries like you do , with lot of animated objects like car traffic .

Please understand that most if not all of these "interactive features", such as animated jetways, follow me cars etc are based on rather old techniques (for the interactive part of the coding process). With FSX on the horizon we will not implement anything that isn't at least based on the 2002/2004 SDK. In many ways you can say that the old (programming) ways of doing sceneries offered a lot more interactivity then the current SDKs. However Microsoft's FSX FAQ also indicates that a new level of "scenery interactivity" will be introduced in the new version. We will have to wait and see.

LMAO!!! :P
It seems like the community is split on that one. I personally don't care for them.

I wouldn't care for them either except the one I seen is pretty well detailed. Not only does the main jetway move into position but the hinged end part that actually butts up to the fuselage then swings into the doorway. I was amazed.
Maybe some day they will appear.

Don't quote me on this but I believe I read where FSX will be implementing moving jetways. But with all the hype I can't remember where I read this.

I think your MDW added something that has been truly missed in FS, People moveing in the terminal. Just like in all the planes you look around and your the only one in the FS world. Some 3rd party companys have tried like Cpt Sims. To see a world of people in FS would be a great add on for the FS World. Just my thoughts.
