From what I understand Microsoft is not making another Flight Simulator, but http://www.fs2004.com is making sort of like an extreme update for FS9.

Not making another FS? Look closely.

Plus they are doing a huge survey of FS usage, every time I quit FS9, a log file is sent to Microsoft, plus a short survey of a few questions, the first 20 times I put the blurries as my big complaint, now I just send the log file and skip the questions.

That's the million dollar question, some of us have an insane amount of money invested in add on software, I added it up one day and for me it's around a thousand dollars.

All our airports from Dubai on are 100% compiled with Makemdl (meaning from DirectX "X" files). I doubt Microsoft will cut support for that format. The older ones KTPA, KMIA and KSAN are partially compiled with SCASM, which may or may not be supported.

Whats going to be in the update? And when is it coming out?

As for the next Flight Simulator, yes, its going to come out. And from what I heard at avsim.com its going to be around February 2006. The new version is going to be miles ahead of the current one. Some features include AI controlled jetways, fuel truck, and baggage carts. There will also be animated cars and even herds!

Well,

Now I'm beginning to understand why the most of sceneries' and aipplanes' designers are deliberately holding off their projects and moving release dates further to Spring.

I don't see the February 2006 release happening. It doesn't add up according to some research that I've done. :?

I agree, maybe only the announcement of the new version will be in February?

New news from simflight.com:

Microsoft About To Announce News On The Next Version

Microsoft just sent out a press release telling us that they will be announcing news on the next version of Flight Simulator (internally known as FSX). As we already suspected, the article in PCGamer was premature and incorrect, reason why we did not mention it in the news. Expect more news to surface after New Years Day..... we'll keep you posted of course.
