Downloaded the new zip Afcad file yesterday but could not open it a message came up saying that it was empty.

Any idea when version 1.1 is going to be released? I already purchased EHAM, but I'm waiting for the new installer to arrive so I don't have to manually apply all these fixes.

What is the difference between this one (No 7. Afcad), and the one you can download from the separate afcad thread?

That separate thread is a modification of the AFCAD from a beta-tester who has implemented GSX support. However, this modification is on the original AFCAD that shipped with the product, ie not updated.

The GSX implemetation on the final AFCAD files will happen after our official v1.1 update

It was already confirmed a new installer will be released but I guess they like to have as much as possible included in this new installer so they don't need to release yet another installer shortly thereafter.

I guess this is how it mostly works, issues are identified and fixed and an update is then released. The difference here is that all fixes are released to the public as soon as they are available. The good thing of course is you as a customer don't need to wait for the new installer where the good thing for the developer is they have a very huge beta group to confirm any fixes work as intended before they are incorporated into a new version/installer.

The bad thing is you might get a headache manually keeping track of all fixes and installing them but luckily the solution to avoid that is very simple...ignore everything posted in here and wait for the new official installer

This sounds correct. For example, currently, I would only bother downloading AFCAD update, nothing else is really critical or can't wait for updated installer.
