fir trees

Post by matty » Mon Jun 15, 2015 8:41 am

Hi folks,

I have a problem with fir trees 'growing' all over the place near the airport perimeter.

Frankly I am uncertain who to address with this issue, as I am not sure if those fir trees come with fly tampa libraries or if they are FTX HD trees.
Whats weird about it is they only show up close to the airport. Did not find any of them going a little farther from the airport.
Any suggestion on this matter other than call 0800-LUMBERJACK? I am experiencing this with FSX gold edition.

They below to me. What's wrong with them?

Dendrology (had to look it up) not my field.

Well, while in fact Australia has several indigenous conifers, firs are none of them and a rather uncommon sight as far as I am aware.
Albeit firs are actually being cultured in Australia for the sake of christmas, they don't really show up that much in natural surroundings. Wheather it may be on countryside or in urban areas.
Don't get me wrong, this is absolutely no show stopper for me but given how the airport was created with such an great eye for detail I was a bit astounded to find so many firs at FT YSSY beacause it is such an uncommon sight (the models themselves are topnotch of course).
Okay enough with the nitpicking and sorry for having made you look up dendrology. :)

Like any other tree you can see in the background of the picture above? ;)

Edit:
But allow me to answer your question a tad more specifically:
For example the 'London plane' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platanus_ ... acerifolia) or the 'Belah' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casuarina_cristata) are trees easy to find around the real airport.
If you want to go more 'aussie' you could go for the 'Grey Ironbark' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_paniculata) or the 'Australian blackwood' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacia_melanoxylon).

Sorry if this appears to be shenanigans to some, but for me this is the same as if Vienna airport was peppered with coconut palms, if you catch my drift. No offence meant!
