Petro Canada

Martin, George, and other FT Staff,

First of all, bravo! The modeling is spectacular, and I'm not personally having any big issues with FPS or VAS, especially when comparing to other payware sceneries. It is, however, because of the spectacular modeling that I raise this. In all honesty, it's quite a small issue, and not really an issue per se, though something that I wanted to bring up. On approach to Runway 23, there is a cluster of buildings kind of iconic to the approach, not the least of these being the Petro Canada station. The picture below depicts this quite clearly. In addition, there are quite a few industrial buildings along this approach which aircraft skim on finals. I can say first hand that it's something definitely to be noticed. In the sim, however, this area is only populated by autogen buildings, which kind of ruin the effect to some extent, and in many cases are disproportionately tall. As well, as I keep autogen to a minimum in the sim to save FPS, there is only around one or two buildings in this quite dense industrial space. So my question is if there are any intentions to create some sort of a future update which includes some more of the surrounding area, as is the case with CYUL. Perhaps even a payware surrounding-area extension? I just think that the area is important enough to merit at least some modeling, and it would add a lot to the approach. If memory were a concern, it could be controlled with the manager.

Sorry for the confusing post, but any word on this would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Derek

Agreed, I was sort of disappointed myself when I didn't see the gas station or Wendy,s across the street from runway 23. I like the surroundings around the airport as much as the airport itself. Can't take anything from this work of art though. This airport visually is the best.

As I just posted in another thread, this project started with a much larger scope but towards the end as I was downscaling high-res textures and removing details and models the decision was made not to add anything whatsoever. So yes, it would be nice to have some extra coverage and models, but at this point its clear to me that most users won't be able to run them as they're already on the limits.

If things change dramatically in future, for example a new 64Bit Sim or even a 32Bit one with better memory management, I am willing to revisit these items for a possible update.

Alright - that sounds good. Honestly, even if it was just the Petro Canada gas station and that alone, it would improve the feel of the airport ten fold (when arriving on 23, that is).

The Petro Canada station and the Wendy's restaurant are certainly iconic landmarks at Runway 23. Aircraft spotters are always there. I would love to have them as well, but I understand Martin's point. Overall, a wonderful package. Just loving FT's CYYZ.

Now that we have better memory management with P3Dv3 will you update the buidings across the street when approaching Rwy 23( PetroCanada, Wendys, gas station, industrial buildings). This is where we would stand and take pics as the aircraft approaches so adding this will be good.

The Petro Canada gas station has been purchased by the GTAA and will be demolished at some point, likely before the end of the year (To do with obstacle clearance and engine out performance when departing 05)
