CYUL in Level D Simulator Visual System vs Fly Tampa's

Post by Mich75 » Thu Nov 14, 2013 12:13 pm

Take a look at this video showing the latest technology of a Level D flight simulator display system... CYUL is there in the beginning and around the end of the video and certainly it does NOT look better than Fly Tampa's CYUL!...

Not even the visual system itself is superior to FXS except in its frame rate vs density of objects and animations for the display engine is driven by monster computers ;)

Among other things their winter landscape at 10min looks better then FS, they got snow on roofs and soft shadows all around.

Snow on roofs are simply winter versions of roofs textures. MS did not add this asset/condition in the textures database... It is an extra set of textures with a code to handle their season condition... not a ground breaking technology :)

As for the soft dynamic shade, again nothing radicaly impressive, yes it is more advanced than FSX, and it is more like XP10 dynamic shades I'd say... And now btw P3D V2 is getting this new shading effect...

My point was for the overall realism effect of the whole world, it is not better than the 2006 FSX IMHO and CYUL that is modeled in the similar ways FSX scenery are 3D modeled, it is not better than FlyTampa CYUL

All in all, one would expect radically more realistic worlds with those multi million motion simulators using huge expensive non commercial computers... Not mentioning that the dull application/usage of the satellite imagery is nothing special neither...

I would expect a 2013 real motion simulator visual engine to look more like this one...:

I learned to curb my expectations when it comes to "real motion simulator visual engine". Stuff is on average 10 years behind the curve so I get excited over tessellated water waves in P3Dv2.. despite having seen the same & better elsewhere in 2004.

I wonder if P3DV2 increases the VAS?! In fact my only nightmare in FSX is the VAS limitation... No matter how many breath taking add-ons are being released, the engine bottleneck of the 4GB max VAS kills FSX no matter what PC setup one has... I wish that could be fixed and FSX would be a very capable platform for all sort of add-ons that will extend its life and revamp its face and make it a brand new sim year after year :?

The purpose of real-world simulators is to train the pilot to handle the plane in all types of situations. The scenery is not the main purpose of the device.
