Performance problems

Post by armchair_pilot » Tue Oct 15, 2013 12:28 pm

Hello, happy customer here of 2 FlyTampa products at the moment. Unfortunately I'm experiencing some heavy performance problems near TNCM (ver. 1.5). My fps drop down from the low 20s to around 10-12 when looking around the airport in the PMDG777. Scenery setting is dense and no road or water traffic are enabled, air traffic at 50% (I never see any air traffic at this airport though). I already tried disabling the animated AI ships but that only gave me 1-2 fps more.
For comparison, at Dubai Rebooted 95% of the time my fps stay above 20 with a lot of traffic at the gates, sometimes they hit 30. That airport is much bigger, so I don't know where this fps loss comes from.

My cpu is an AMD Fx8350 overclocked to 4,5GHz, gpu is an ATI HD6870 1GB and my fsx.cfg is tweaked with the following changes: AffinityMask=254, TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048, HIGHMEMFIX=1, TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400, LOD_RADIUS=6.500000, UsePools=0

Any advice or help would be very appreciated.

Regards

Max

Does the fps jump up to 100+ once you look away? Try a default Aircraft and slew mode (Key Y) to see if you can pinpoint anything specific thats causing a drop when looked at.

I'm getting worse performance with v1.5 as well. Turned off the AI ships and volumetric grass as well. For some reason when I leave the airport from runway 10 making the quick right turn, then pan my view back I get some momentary purple squares on the ground. The go away in a second or two, but I think that is usually an indicator of the RAM getting low or something.

I also note that I get some random flashes on the ground in some areas by the terminal when panning around. It's almost like some default objects try to render really quick but are them squashed by the exclude files. I used to notice this around the big terminal on the right side when facing it. The flash was like a default ground tug was quickly popping into then out of view.

I am wondering if the animated people are causing the performance hit. I wouldn't think so since they dont render from far away but you never know.

BTW, the FPS are worse when facing the mountain on or around RWY 10. Maybe all the static ships in the harbour?

I'm running 2700K, 8 GB RAM at 2133mhz and a GTX670 2GB card. No issue like this at Kai Tak or Dubai.

Here are a few things you can try to disable and see if they cause an impact:

addon scenery/flytampa-maarten/scenery/

maarten_grd_oil.bgl
maarten_grd_wet.bgl
maarten_grasses.BGL
maarten_people1.bgl

My fps are locked to 30 externally. But as far as I've noticed they never hit 30 in the PMDG777 or NGX but with defaut aircraft they do. I'll turn off the limiter and see what happens.
Also the same issue that cmpbllsjc has happens to me aswell, fps are the worst when I look down RWY 10, they stay above 20 when looking anywhere else. Today I will disable the entries you listed and do some more tests.
Thanks for your help!

Okay back from testing. Here's what I did:

With everything enabled in the scenery (like before) I turned off the fps limiter and loaded the default trike at RWY10. Fps at that time were fluctuating between 15-25 but were more stable at 20-25 when looking straight ahead. Looking left/right and behind me, the frames jumped up to 40-60. Used slew mode to track the source of the performance loss, slid across the island up to St. Barths, also there must be a problem, fps were still in the low 20s up to 30. Looking away from the islands and everything is fine, 50-60.

Now I removed the 4 listed scenery objects, fps became better but it's not a world of a difference. Again at RWY10, fps were 30-35 at best (remember I'm still using the default trike). Looking anywhere else I got crazy fps going anywhere between 30-50 max.

Still no clue what's causing this :?

This one has me stumped as well.

I tried turning off the static boats and that helped a little, but in v1 I was running the static boats and had no problems with performance here and that was on an older rig. If TNCM is basically the same as v1, minus the old terminal being gone and some animated people being added, I can't figure what could be causing the hit.

Some of the folks as Avsim are noticing a performance hit as well in the new version at TNCM.

Martin, what is the easiest way to turn of the animated people, and if we turn them off can we still have static people?

What is wrong with this scenery?

VERY POOR performance. :/

I have FPS 14-17 on i7@4GHz, 8RAM, HD79703GB, W7, FSX+Acc ect., AI 16%.

Bought couple days ago, when 1,5 was released but now Im very disapointed (so havent version before).

Reinstaled, uncheck all install (eye candy) options and still medium fps 17 when the others complex scenery (all FTX, FlyTampa - Dubai or Hong Kong) near stable 29,5 fps (on 30 fps at external limiter with 1/2 v-sync refresh rate). It looks for me like scenery isnt optymalized. Maybe the problem are moving objects (on pause I have stable 30 fps). Its impossible than on simple SABA airport, with not many objects, eye candies ect I have 16 fps  . Many better sceneries - smooth performance.

Any optymalized patch for this is planned?

VERY POOR Spelling & grammar. LOL.

Try disabling the options for yourself instead of moaning like a beyotch.
I'm running it maxed out on a cpu less powerful than yours, & i get 40-50 fps with everything in the scenery enabled. FSX settings, all maxed apart from water reflections, bloom & scenery shadows.

I think its perhaps that AMD Radeon video card you have. They are abysmal for FSX. Get a Nvidia.

LOL :P . Could You be so kind and buy me the new one? Sorry - it isnt good answer. Scenery isnt optimized. How many people here are not satisfied with fps of St.Maarten package. If You read carefully You saw then I wrote - no any problems with FlyTampa sceneries ect. Just this one.

Any other advices but not in style like "change a computer"...

The scenery can't be optimized for crap hardware or a poor setup can it? If you want it to run faster, install it again without the grass & animated people.

Or you could go back to the older version which suits your older hardware.

Like I say, it runs great for me & my CPU is weaker than yours.

Calm down. I'm investigating the issue.

Martin, something is kicking in to cause the big drop and it happens randomly (and it does eventually happen). I can sit on the ramp and my frames are 30FPS locked and then after a few minutes (after I taxi for example) the frames drop.

My FPS will be fine and it is as if something kicks in (comes into view or loads) and BOOM down go my frames (11-13FPS).

Oddly, once down they stay there. I did a flight from TNCM to TFFJ and my frames stayed at 11-13 to entire trip.

Even in the default Cessna.

If I start on runway 10 they are also poor, but improve if I look west (towards the beach). And drop again when I look east.

(this could be some setting users have in there driver control panel for example, maybe some setting is causing this drop for some and not for others)

Thanks Martin. It will be interesting to hear your findings if you can figure out what is causing the hit.

For me that FPS drops are quite as drastic as what some are quoting, but there is a definite drag on performance coming from somewhere, more in the line with RAM performance judging from the ground tiles turning dark purple when changing views from above. I dont even have that happen at Dubai or Kai Tak.
