Re: Low FPS in FS2004
Try to add extensive ai traffic, REX clouds, complex airplanes etc to these screenshots. For your system specs (which seems to me like a gaming computer) the comparisions aren't exactly the same as the others have posted. If you fly PMDG MD-11 to the airport, frames won't be that high.
In my country we can't afford to buy the latest of the latest, heck, I still have my phone from the 90s, and so? I'm happy with it. I bought a new computer one year ago for 800 leva, which is around maybe 400 US dollars? Computers here are cheaper than in the west, but in this country we do not have the hardware that they have in the USA and west... In eastern europe and Russia, we make most sceneries free, just go to avsim.su and see for yourself. There are several high quality sceneries, but not anything in the quality of Fly Tampa Dubai. Still, all the other sceneries work at my locked framerate of 20 fps, including FS Dreamteam KJFK, KORD, Fly Tampa Tampa, Kai Tak, Aerosoft Amsterdam, Aerosoft Madrid... They all work smooth, with lots of traffic... So while it could be a question of hardware, something still needs to be done. The city is fine, but not the airport itself, and even someone who has better slightly better hardware, they will still see a noticeable FPS decrease on OMDB.
Next time, since developers don't care to optimize anymore for FS9, simply porting, I guess I'll have to stop spending the limited money I have for this hobby. A port from FSX to FS9 isn't, unless done in a good way (at least since it's payware they should try to optimize it). An external example would be GTA IV, which was ported from PS3/XBOX 360 to PC, and see the results? People running GTA IV on even a very good PC had bad framerates because of a crappy port.
FS9 is old, but spent money is spent money. I may have high expectations, but that's because the cost of addons here is very expensive... and do not tell me a beer at a bar cost 6 dollars... Because here, it costs 1 leva (which is 50 US cent). So see? Much money...

Re: Low FPS in FS2004
An optional "performance-downgrade" for FS9 Update is being worked on. It does unfortunately take some time to adjust and recompile 100-200 BGL files, it should be ready within this week tho. How much it will help performance I don't know yet.
Re: Low FPS in FS2004
Of course I have a gaming computer. So should you! LOL. FS9/FSX are games. I'm sorry computer's are expensive but this isn't a cheap hobby & you shouldn't expect these guys to work for you for free. Bulgaria isn't exactly a third world country so I'm sure you can find decent system somewhere, even if over the boarder. I know you Russian / eastern guys use old planes for decades, & they fall out the sky more often as a result. Maybe that's what is happening here. Old computer, old software, bloated with AI, REX, PMDGs. Its gonna crash and burn just like your airliners do. How long should a developer be expected to support this old stuff? Until all that left left is a few users in Kazakhstan?tupolev154 wrote:Try to add extensive ai traffic, REX clouds, complex airplanes etc to these screenshots. If you want to use FS9 which is a 10 years old, on a obsolete cheap ms office computer, then maybe you should not expect a cutting edge scenery product from 2013 to work. Stick to the old Dubai.

Thanks, please also check my post about the lights. Picture will follow.martin[flytampa] wrote:An optional "performance-downgrade" for FS9 Update is being worked on. I think I'll buy the next months (Christmas) a new CPU unit (I5). As I don't think my video card is the problem (GTX 550 Ti) and also the memory with 8GB is enough.

Re: Low FPS in FS2004
First... many thanks for new patch being worked on. Even if it doesn't help much, we're always thankful the developer is trying to do something.
And for the answer to my previous post:
Gaming computers are expensive, with the salaries we're getting here, are like 200-300 dollars a month, some earn 300-500 at best. Personally I get an income of around 300 but have to pay several bills, rent etc, because of this it's rare I buy fs addons. Before I was only flying Project Tupolev, now at least I have a few payware sceneries and the PMDG MD-11.
And work for free? Where did I write this? The freeware is for free, that's why it's called freeware? And payware obviously cost money.
The airplanes are just fine, maybe some are built in the 70s, but they're still safe. What makes them crash is not incompetent pilot or the age of the places, it simply does have to do with the maintenance. And weather is sometimes extreme in this area. My father used to be a pilot for the IL-62 back in the 90s, when there was a lot of chaos due to the break up of Aeroflot, hence some pilots were gone, some were new. And by then, safety was really at question. But now, it's no problems. Besides a western ATR 72 crashed in Russia, an example of how the crashes does not happen because of the age. The soviet airplanes aren't any worse than the western (of the time). Maybe they're back in technology, but the Tu-154 for example, is built like a tank, and withstands crashes better than Airbus 320 and Boeing 737. Out of the many incidents, here's proof: http://englishrussia.com/2011/11/04/the-lucky-tu-154/ ... Would a Boeing really survive such a situation?
Old computers aren't many of here, because just a few years ago computer was rare, what is many of, is computers who are budget kind of, and not only here, but in many countries around. In Bulgaria many people use FS2004, same in Russia. Since you mentioned Kazakhstan, there is a lot of people who use FS2004, just go to avsim.su and see all the Kazakhstan sceneries for FS9.
Is FSX much newer than FS2004? Actually, both are old. I got GTA IV to work on this "crap" computer for a reasonable framerate, along with many modern games. This isn't the best computer but it isn't crap and obsolete. New scenery works on this computer for reasonable framerates, including scenery from 2012.
In this post I do not blame the developers, due to the patch being worked on. The reason I explained about my computer is to the past comment claiming computers here are crap. They're normal laptops, just not gaming. As I sometimes must move, I cannot buy a desktop.
P.S I even got FSX to work, with the Project Tupolev Tu-154B-2. And the framerate is reasonable, just I can't run the same clouds, AI traffic, and complex scenery as in FS9, hence I do not enjoy it. A crap computer wouldn't be able to handle FSX at all.

Fair point. What a tough old bird that is.tupolev154 wrote:First... many thanks for new patch being worked on. Even if it doesn't help much, we're always thankful here's proof: http://englishrussia.com/2011/11/04/the-lucky-tu-154/ ... Would a Boeing really survive such a situation?
Re: Low FPS in FS2004
Incredibly, and i've noticed this with other addons too after trying FSX the first time in a long time today... I get more FPS in FSX. Maybe this problem is due to the airport being at total limitations in terms of poly count or similar on FS9, i'm definitely considering a total switch to FSX after this....

Re: Low FPS in FS2004
Hi
Thank you very much for this outsanding product and also for creating scenerys for FS9 also.
I do have the same experiences, that as soon the terminal comes inside, the fps dropped down very rapidely.
Maybe they are some "bad textures"? Anyway thank you for working on an update.
Regards
Patrick

Re: Low FPS in FS2004
If bad textures, you can always check for alpha errors and such. There was a tool about it mentioned on an avsim thread.
However I don't think it's caused by bad textures because flytampa is a reputable company and probably wouldn't have leaven something like this.

the tool is called dxt3fixertupolev154 wrote:If bad textures, you can always check for alpha errors and such. There was a tool about it mentioned on an avsim thread.

Re: Low FPS in FS2004
i have no problem with FPS at Dubai and the rest of flytampa scenerys. I get around 30-50 FPS at busy airports and about 50-99FPS (locked at 100) while crusing high in the sky. just look at my signiture....
Re: Low FPS in FS2004
and again, as said earlier.... DO YOU HAVE - ai traffic at 100% -active sky - ground environment - ultimate terrain ???nickac1092 wrote:i have no problem with FPS at Dubai and the rest of flytampa scenerys. and all other bells and whistles?

Re: Low FPS in FS2004
I too am having the same issues as a lot of others, the city is not causing any problems at all, its when th terminal is in view. Even looking south with the terminals in view (so only a few city buildings in view) the FPS drops considerably. For me it definitely seems to be the terminal building thats causing the FPS issue. Without AI I never fail to achieve 36FPS (locked) at any sceneries I own with full Activesky/REX weather.
The wider landscape is immense, so beautifully produced, but unfortunately if I have full AI and weather then the FPS on my system drops to 15-20 when on finals and taxiing at the airport (lower than anything else I am used to at any of my other sceneries such as UK2000 EGLL).
I would also like to add that I'm very pleased for those with newer systems that they're not experiencing problems. But please don't use this as an excuse to brag about your system specs, it infuriates me! Many of us choose to use FS9 over FSX because our systems can handle it like a dream, and we hope that our purchases for FS9 are easy to run on our current system.
Thanks again for all your hard work Martin, but I would love to see a patch for whatever is causing the terminal FPS issue in the near future.
