default buidlings visible

Post by eddk » Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:44 am

Hi y'all

a classic one :wink:
everything was great when I installed the scenery. Yesterday I tweaked the AFCAD and added some Cargo spots. Plus I manually pushed AES on top in the scenery library, like OP is recommending. suddenly the default buildings are visible, see the screenshot. On the shot I have AFX open to prove that FS9 is using the AFCAD from the FlyTampa scenery folder.

the layers in my scenery.cfg seems to be correct

[Area.175]
Title=UNNT-2011
Local=Addon Scenery\UNNT-2011
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=175

[Area.176]
Title=FlyTampa-Athens_LC
Local=Addon Scenery\FlyTampa-Athens_LC\
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=176
Remote=

[Area.177]
Title=FlyTampa-Athens
Local=Addon Scenery\FlyTampa-Athens\
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=177
Remote=

Any suggestions?

Have you tried moving the scenery library back to the way it was before the problem just to troubleshoot?

Try copying the attached BGL into FlyTampa-Athens/scenery/

I have one question for you: when you reworked the file, did you use AFX or ADE?

Thanks Martin, that solved the problem!

I still use AFCAD 2.21 by Lee Swordy :wink:
I'm a bit careful with using AFX, at AIG I learned that it can destroy approach codes by saving reworked bgl files, at least earlier versions. Don't know if they fixed it yet. I only use it for the live preview.

I have a hunch that is why you had the issue. One thing I've noticed through personal experiences is if a file that was created or previously edited in ADE, it can gain attributes that are not editable in AFCAD 2.21 or AFX. This can commonly result in the excludes that might be inherent to that file being lost or corrupted. As an example, if I edit the KSFO.bgl (afcad) that comes with Flightbeam's KSFO with AFX, I will begin to see all the default buildings crashing through the scenery and in some cases replacing the product's own buildings. But if I edit the file with ADE, the program it was written with, I can make any number of changes without corrupting the file.

So the ground rule becomes: use the program which the author created the afcad with to edit it; when in doubt, use ADE.
I can't remember if George used AFX or ADE for the RC build. Either way, I know I can edit it in ADE without issue.

This isn't really a user error, just food for thought. If you're going to be editing afcads often, I would really consider switching to ADE just to avoid future complications (this is coming from someone who loved AFX so I can say the switch was possible even though it meant using a different interface).

Thanks Anthony, some nice tips there.

Downloading ADE as we speak :wink:
I'll try to become attuned with it

Its caused by using AFCAD 2. For whatever reason AFCAD2 will disregard the airport exclusions used to remove the default airport. Solution is to use ADE, its more powerful anyway.

Also got the default buildings after using AFCAD from Lee Swordy to add a couple of Airlines to the gates. Used the exclude file to correct this issue.

My question is if I want to carry on changing the size of gates or add airline codes will the Afcad file become further "corrrupted"?

Still have a copy of the original & up-dated Afcad.

I have looked at ADE in the past but decided to stay with Lee's version as ADE seem very complicated.

Your mileage may vary. You are doing so at your own risk. I sincerely encourage you to learn and use ADE as you won't have to worry about creating any problems.
