For some reason my install of KMDW is all grass?

The scenery hasn't been installed at all based on your shot. If you ran the installer normally it should have automatically added Fly Midway to the Scenery Database, but this can sometimes fail, maybe due to firewalls or virus shields.

You'll have to try manually adding it to the scenery database as instructed here..
