KBUF Perimeter Fences

Post by MilOperator » Mon Sep 06, 2010 11:46 am

Love KBUF but.. is there any way to remove the perimeter fences? They hit the frames pretty hard even in fs9.

Thanks.

I doubt the fences do much harm. What kind of system do you have?
If its too slow, re-run the installer & untick the Grass & cars.
Or turn off ground shadows. Can't remove the fences I'm afraid.

I have a killer system, Core i7, 8Gb Ram, GForce 5800... etc. It's not the grass (I tried that already) it's the ground shadows drawn by all the fencing. I hate removing ground shadows but I just wish they were not modeled ino the fences since they are not really needed there and look sort of strange anyway. A solid shadow on a chain link is not realistic IMO. Anyway, thanks.

you sure you mean a GForce 5800? That's a 7 year old gfx card. Could be the bottleneck. I have an I7 & get 80+ fps maxed out in FS9.
I'll look at removing the fences into separate files for a later patch tho.
The problem is, the scenery is primarily for FSX which allows per shader shadow occlusion. FS9 can only turn off shadows per bgl.

Sorry, it's not the GeForce 5800 it's the Quadro FX 5800 4Gb card. The card cost as much as the entire PC did. It's the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 Graphics adapter - 4 GB retails for about $2,600. That's not the bottleneck. Honestly, the machine has NO bottlenecks at all. This is the first time ever I am getting a bit of stutter with an FS scenery. I run FSX wide open all sliders full with REX and still get 38+ fps in any weather. However with the KBUF scenery I still get the high framerates but I get stutters in FS9. Actually, in FSX it works better. ?? I tried with shadows off and the stutter goes away but I want my shadows. I am 99% sure it's the fencing shadows because they "flicker" when the stutter happens and another forum suggested to remove fences with scenery I was having issue s with on my last PC and it fixed the issue. Thing is, the last time the fences were in a separate .bgl all by themselves. Not so with this scenery.

Alright, I'll try separating the fences now. Might take me up to an hour tho.

Really? Wow, that's really nice of you man. I am shocked to see that a developer would do that for a single customer. Awesome service! I was not expecting it. Most developers won't even reply to customers. BTW, your scenery IS awesome. I have maybe 2 others by you but I may go back to Simmarket and buy your entire collection. Thanks again! :D

Good read, the comments too.

Well, I use the Pc mostly for CAD and that is what it is designed for. I have an NVidia 9800 as well and had it installed as a secondary (gaming) card but the Quadro blew it away. Anything else you can sugest as a gaming card?

Here's the shadowless fence fix.
Just replace the existing files & add the new fence.bgl.

I'd be interested to know if this fixes it. I could be the fancy GFX card can't handle FS9s 200 year old shadow technology :)

Thanks. I will text it out in a little bit and post back. Could be right about the older shadowing with the newer card. Thaks again.

OK, I tested it out and it is much better now. I tried it both with and without the fences.bgl and there is no difference, so getting rid of the fence shadows seems to have fixed my issue. I did notice a few gates (with shadows) remained though, just so you know. The scenery is great and the support even better. Thanks again.
