Loading time Kai Tak Scenery

Post by Tripple7 » Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:26 am

I have many scenery software for FSX on my computer and when I load an airport it takes about 3 minutes before it is loaded.
When I load Kai Tak it takes about 12 minutes to load this airport.
I know that this scenery is complicated but is this loadingtime normal?

Doesn't sound normal. When you say 3 minutes as comparison, is that for any default airport? What are your specs?

The specs

Post by Tripple7 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 6:01 am

Hello Martin,

I bought my computer two years ago with the following specs.

2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo, with 4GB of RAM, and a GeForce 8800 GTX, Windows Vista 64 bitt and FSX with Service Pack SP1 & SP2.

Next year there wil be a new computer but this one works absolutely perfect until now with the scenery from Aerosoft,Flytampa, and FSdreamteam.
The only thing is that loading KaiTak takes a long time and my harddisk is working real hard.

I'm smelling file corruption/allocation issues. You could try defragging (i suggest O&O Defrag software). This might shuffle the files to where your hard-drive can access them better. I might be completely wrong though, and I only say this because you have a kick ass system

Defrag

Post by Tripple7 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 12:24 pm

Hello tbmavengerstuka

Thank you for your reply. The problem is solved by defragging my computer.
Thursday I received Paris, Stockholm, Madrid and Kai Tak from Aerosoft in Germany and I loaded this software into my computer. A littlebit to much I think so a defrag was necessary.
Kai Tak loads within two minutes now.

One question for you. Is the O&O defrag software much better then the original defrag from Windows?

Best regards, Nico

Glad to hear it worked! O&O has features that windows just doesn't (XP at least). There are 5 main types of fragmentation modes, but the 3 that really stand out use fragmentation algorithms that come in very handy to gamers. If my memory serves me correctly, one of the options allows you to hierarchically place files on your hard disk according to their use. For flightsimming, this means if you mainly use the Level D 767 and mainly fly in the US, but might also use an external program such as a weather engine or whatever, the program will automatically put those files next to each other so that the seeker head doesn't have to cross as much physical hard drive real estate. These files might normally have been spread out all across the hard drive, since you might have installed FS one day, installed the 767 half a year later, and then installed the other program another half year later. They'd all be all over the place. Now, your FS and most used programs are all in one place, ready for quick use. Kind of a great idea huh?

Hope this was at least a little bit semi-productive, mr. Flytampa..

Memory hogging from O & O???

Do you run it when you load FSX?

I prefer to shot down every hogging program before starting FSX.

Just curious...

O & O always has a service running, can't remember the name. I used to disable it and when I wanted to defrag using O & O I would restart the service.
