Stutters at LOWW

Post by fspilot » Thu Apr 05, 2007 4:22 am

Hi, first of all may I congratulate the FlyTampa team for a first class Addon for fs9 in the Vienna scenery.
I hope someone in this forum may be able to help, after hours of searching this forum, Aerosoft and other forums, I cannot rid my system of the 1-2 second stutter while on approach, or Taxiing around the Airport in the pan view.
I see the whole airport area around the airport, pause, then flash white as the textures reload. I have tried various ATi drivers 6.10,7.2, and now the 7.3 but they do not seem to cure the problem. My graphics card is Radeon X850pro 256mb Agp and would of thought this would be enough to run the addon ok? I also have the FlyTampa Boston freeware airport which I have No issues with, also some ISD project airports that run smooth.
I limit my FPS to 24 and average 23 most of the time until the pause then goes scatty and then stutters around 16-18.
Could I have a bottleneck that is causing this or a setting?

My system spec is

AMD64 4000+ skt939
Radeon X850pro AGP
1024mb DDR RAM
19" Widescreen TFT monitor 1400x900

Addons
F1 Ground Enviroment
F1 flight Enviroment
Fs Terrain ( JustFlight)
JustFlight Ukairports
F1 Leveld 767
F1 ATR72
+ others

Try maneuvering around the airport with AI traffic off. I have found that before, I would get the stutters and pauses because of the AI traffic and not necessarily the airport.

More specifically, textures with no MIP-maps will cause this as they must be loaded at full res regardless of how far away the object is. I converted all of my AI textures to DXT1 format with mip-maps and found that the stuttering dissapeared.

Mip-maps, when used properly, are a good thing and increase performance without degrading visual quality. It is fine to have your user-aircraft in no mips if you really want that detail but for AI traffic and most scenery (well-made scenery like FlyTampa has mip-maps in its textures already) mip-maps are not needed and only cause these stutters.

Do you use Ultimate Traffic ?
If so, you need to replace the pai planes.
Do you have any other add ons for that area ?
Sometimes an add on airport in the area will cause this.

Hi Fspilot,

have you tried the anti-flicker patch in the sticky post?
viewtopic.php?t=1500

I experienced the same problem as you and after running this patch, I only get a stutter at the initial loading of the textures.
It's no longer stuttering when I'm panning around afterwards!!

Hope it can help you too :D

Regards,
Sylvain
