For JVile and other skilled Traffic Experts TFFJ

Post by M.D.Miron » Thu Apr 19, 2007 3:48 am

Dear Mr.Vile/Dear All,

Having monitored closely the descents and landings in TFFJ/Rwy 10, I can conclude the following:
Henri's DHC6 is by far the best to cope with this singular landing.
The C208B lands thru the hill.
The BN2 and Fernando's Dornier are just unable to reach the runway-they approach at an altitude too high - and declare missed approach.

Now, my question being, and please correct me if I'm wrong: regarding especially the Dornier and the BN2 - is the fault maybe in the flightplans - and I should revise and correct the cruising altitude? maybe for such short/hopping flights there is a max. altitude?

Thanks as ever,
MD

All Flightplans MUST be IFR in order for the AI Plane to use the approach code correctly.

The C208B never cleared the hill in all my testing. The FD's are the default FS9 on every model I checked. Those Planes always start the descent to soon.

The DHC6 was the plane I used for the standard which set the descent rate for the DO228-200 and BN-2 based on the FAF.

I posted somewhere around here on what models I used. I never saw a problem with the DO228 or the BN-2 going missed. Just be sure that the DO228-200 is the model from AVSIM that Fernando Martinez designed.

The DCH6 and the BN-2 are from HTAI GA AI Plane web site.

You can "Go To" TFFJ selecting RWY 10 and then but yourself in slew. Back away from runway 10 to the SUCRE Waypoint (use the GPS to see the waypoint) at 1200 ft. when a AI Plane is arriving.

The AI Plane will make a turn to final right in front of your position and then start a descent toward RWY 10. If the AI Plane is not at 1200 ft. when the turn is made to final the FP altitude is probably to high or on a VFR flight. Any AI Plane departing TNCM to TFFJ should not be higher then 2000-3000 ft. in the IFR FP.

Even if a Plane goes missed it should turn left and climb to 2000 ft based on the code I used for missed approaches. The AI Plane will fly an extended downwind and then turn back toward a left base for RWY 10. ATC will once again instruct the plane to descend to 1200 ft prior to the turn to final.

Be sure you are using the correct .air and .cfg for all the AI Planes. Any modification from the original air/cfg that Henry and Fernando designed for their AI planes and you may see odd behavior.

I also observed that many FP's found on web sites set enroute altitudes too high for Island type Commuters.

There are other issues that can cause a AI Plane to go missed such as FPS. Be sure you try and maintain at least 17-20 FPS and DO NOT use any x2 or x4 FS speeds when AI Plane spotting.

I will do some more testing on this end.

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

Will tweaking FDE's and give the C208 the identity of the DH6 be of
some relief?
