ILS 13C

Post by psykie » Mon Jul 04, 2005 12:35 am

Has anyone made an ILS approach on 13 C yet? I flew into the "Fly Tampa" KMDW from "Fly Tampa" KSFO and made an ILS approach into 13C. The approach becaame very eratic and the ILS flew me into the ground way short of the runway. I tried this a couple of times and same effect.

Other than that the "Fly Tampa" series is great and I really like KMDW.

For runway 13C you should not be using autoland if you are. This runway is mostly used as a visual approach. ILS is every once and a great while.

Bryan:

If they have an ILS than I SHOULD be able to use "ap" (approach) function. What happens when its a really bad snow storm and visibility warrants a Cat II or III approach?

Anyways I SHOULD be able to use the app funtion and I am wondering why it isn't working.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Is it that you don't engage? Or is it that it flies you into the ground? How long do you maintain the glideslope?

I ask because:

Fairly certain none of the runways at MDW are CAT II or III. Trust me, I had to divert to Champaign on ATA one winter because of the weather! :x Anyway, this shouldn't affect APP function but 'might' affect how well the aircraft holds the localizer/slope.

Granted, if you're crashing onto the corner of Central and 55th, might have a little concern there!

A real CAT III auto land approach uses not only the glideslope, but also the Radar Altimeter in the aircraft. In real life, I don't know about FS World, the glideslope is accurate until @ 25'. At that point you will begin to pass the G/S antenna and it will the begin to rise in the opposite direction. Even the best pilot in the world could not follow the G/S all the way to touchdown, it is impossible. The Radar Altimeter is what the autopilot uses to engage the flare for a smooth auto land.

Thanks SWApilot:

I did engage it and it flew me into the ground before reaching threshold.
As typical ATC had me fly under the glideslope to fly into the glideslope and as I did it became somewhat erratic and flew me into the ground. I never had this problem with the previouse AVSIM Midway add-on scenery airport. so, I am thinking its the afcad ILS function. However, I am curious if others have this same experience.

Hello Randy:

Yes, I just tried it for the 1st time with the new "star" afcad and it worked just fine. Thanks for trying testing it.

I flew the ILS 13C today and no problems. I was using the PMDG 737-800, full auto land/autopilot. The approach was requested by me to ATC, and I got vectors to final. :D

The only real problem I had was frame rates. But that is due to the PMDG 737, not the scenery. (supose I could turn down some of the traffic and effects, but it is so beautiful, why would I). :D

Hey Mathew,

is this STAR afcad for FS9 only ??
I have these problems :

the graphic is great in Midway ! And even with a slower machine under FS2K2 I have no problems with framerates...

But have you done do the ILS-System for 31C - 13 C ???
On 31 C I got no indication at all that this is IMTX... It appears as IMDW and it don't capture me on aproach.
Only "backbeam" works

If I make a aproach from 13C... it is not much better...No capture of the ILS in Autopilot APP Mode
Indication flipps between IMDW and IMTX !

From both sides I have no Glidslope available

I have unintalled and reinstalled made sure FS200" Version is choosen.
Checked scenery.cfg... everything as it should be but still the same problem.

After buying Tampa and Miami and everything is smooth... I am really disapointed :-(

Any Help ??
