KMDW Approach Lights

Post by rschnabl » Fri Jul 01, 2005 3:41 am

Excellent scenery and one of the most interesting approaches in the US!
I just have one question regarding the missing ALSF-1 approach lighting
system to rwy 13C: according to my documentation this runway had full
ALSF-1 system but in the new scenery this seems to be missing.
Well, went to check out the current FAA charts for KMDW and that's
indeed correct, there is no ALSF-1 to 13C anymore, only approach
lighting is LDIN for 31C therefore scenery is true to life and realistic:
does anybody know why and when full ALSF-1 to 13C was removed?
Thanks.

Jeppesen (2004) as well as FAA (June 2005) charts don't show any approach lights system for 13C, only the LDIN for 31C.

It has been reported to me and I am aware that there are or might be some sort of lights on 13C, however I decided not to include them since I cannot find any confirmed (written) information that they are really there. What is odd about this is that these lights don't seem to have been installed "yesterday", so I wonder why no charts or any other data source like
http://www.airnav.com/airport/kmdw list them.
The default Microsoft KMDW, which Microsoft auto-generates with their data sources don't have 13C lights as well. And no 31C lights either, but thats probably due to the fact that LDIN isn't a system that FS supports by default.

Im starting to wonder if they are just there for IFR weather. Because when I worked there. The lot I parked at was inline with the 13C lights.
The only time I saw them on was when it was low cielings and visibility.

Nw 31C has them on continuously when 22L and 31C are in use reguardless of weather.

Could this be a reason why they are not published? Could it just be a part of the runway lighting for 13C?
