VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
I went through all the postings in this section but didn't find anyone else reporting my problm. I have been using the FlyTampa VHHX wihtout any problems for several years on my old computer. The old single core computer just died and I have had to install all my FSX stuff on a new computer, including FlyTampa VHHX. I took the first flight out yesterday on a flight plan to Hanoi, but 20 minutes into the flight the screen froze and a message popped up sayng I was out of memory and would have to reduce the video settings. I reset the sliders lower (none of them was more than 50% and most were around 20%) and tried again, same freeze and message at around 20 minutes. After 3 unsuccessful flights I tried a flight plan to Taipei, same result at the 20 minute mark.
Here are my computer specs:
Dell XPS 8300
Intel Core i7-2600 processor (8MB Cache, 3.4Ghz)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 1GB GDDR5
8GB DDR3 RAM
500GB hard drive less than 15% used
I turned on Resource Monitor and watched during a 3rd attempted flight and RAM usage never went above 20%. I have flown the same aircraft out of other airports with same weather and time of day settings without any problems, VHHX is the only airport where I experience the freezes.
Did I miss some setting during installation or can anyone else suggest what's causing these errors?

Re: VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
This is Trailboss again, I forgot to write that I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Re: VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
Sorry, I'm back again trying to get my act together. I forgot to include that I'm running FSX with Acceleration. Could there be a conflict with Acceleration?
Re: VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
Depends on what else you have installed and what is running in the background.
Re: VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
Hi Skydvdan,
Thanks for the response. Nothing else is running according to the resource monitor, only FSX.

Re: VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
Hi GeorgeFlyTampa,
Do you mean this one:
FlyTampa-HongKong FS2004 Update to 1.1 (1 MB self installer) July 2008
Updates Hong Kong to 1.1. Includes memory leak fix, Afcad, AI-Ships, lighting fixes and other improvements.
I believe that is only for FS2004, correct? So, no, I haven't installed it.

Re: VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
After additional testing I do not think FlyTampa VHHX is causing the OOM errors. I tested by removing FT VHHX, then selecting a simple aircraft, a default Cessna 172, and placing it at various airports around the world. After checking out airports in US, Europe, Middle East and Australia with no problems, I found that by placing the 172 at any airport in China, Vietnam, Korea or Taiwan I received the OOM error and CTD the moment I clicked Fly Now and the load progress bar hit 100%. Also, if I flight planned from VHHH (yes, it's part of China but for some reason VHHH, Macau and VHHX loaded correctly) for example, to Hanoi, I could start the flight but about 20 minutes into the flight the OOM and CTD occurred.
I ran repairs on both FSX and Acceleration, but no joy.
My theory is that the FSX/Accel install disk, one or the other, is defective. I welcome anyone's comments, but understand that since FlyTampa is no longer involved, I'm on my own.

Re: VHHX Out of Memory Error Message
It could be a bad flightplan or AI aircraft livery. I've heard of those causing crashing.
Try it without AI.

Hi George[FlyTampa],
You were on the right track with your comments about AI aircraft. After hours of frustration I looked in the Addon Scenery/scenery file and found that after I installed FlyTampa VHHX I then installed a file that was supposed to direct AI traffic to VHHX. When I removed FT VHHX I didn't remove that scenery file and that was causing all the problems.
Problem solved and thanks for your continued assistance!
