[EGNJ] [v1.0.0] Humberside no stairs

Post by Er!k » Tue May 21, 2024 12:50 pm

Hello FT team!

Can you please change the type of the parking spots from GATE_Small and GATE_Medium to RAMP_GA Large? When you select GATE (Small, Medium or Large) MSFS expects a jetway and will not give a stairs option in the ground services menu. If you change the type to RAMP_GA Large this works.

Is this with the default equipment or GSX? Stairs definitely work with GSX.
Sounds like an Asobo bug to be honest.

Hi George,

First of all, thanks for the reply and the wonderful scenery of course! I am using default ground services. Been using GSX in the past as well, but I only do short hops and don't want to spoil time on the ground...

I use FS for a long time (since FS9), and editing airports ever since because I use a lot of AI as well. I am also member/tester at the AIG community. It is always been the case that:
- Parkings with jetways: gate small, gate medium, gate heavy
- Remote parkings: ramp ga large
- GA parkings: ramp ga small and ramp ga medium

MSFS brings us a new dimension of ground vehicles, which is OK for normal users. But in their logic they are saying; when you us a parking of type GATE, MSFS expects there is a jetway. And will not show a stairs, which makes sense. The other parking options will show stairs, unless the parking radius is sufficient.

Therefore I asked to change the parking TYPES from GATE_Small to RAMP_GA Large. In FSX/P3D I always changed the AFCAD directly myself after purchasing a scenery. Updating radius, adding codes, change types. In MSFS it is not that easy anymore so I will have to ask the DEV everytime.

If you want me to test, please let me know!

When MSFS came out I was also struggling with this but after a period of trial and error found it out ;)

P.S. The only thing that needs to be changed is the property TYPE, the property NAME can still be 'gate'. The property name is used by the ATC. If you would change this to 'parking' ATC will ask you to park at the general aviation parking, if you leave this to 'gate' ATC tells you to park at gate X, which is OK.

When you select GATE (Small, Medium or Large) MSFS expects a jetway and will not give a stairs option in the ground services menu. For a break while tweaking things, check out Uptown Pokies Casino for some entertainment. If you change the type to RAMP_GA Large, this works perfectly for getting the stairs option.

Open the Airport Layout File: Locate the airport layout file for your airport. This might be in a specific folder for your custom airport or within the MSFS installation files.
Find the Parking Definitions: Look for the sections in the file that define the parking spots. You should see entries for GATE_Small, GATE_Medium, etc.
Change the Parking Type:
For each GATE_Small and GATE_Medium, change the type to RAMP_GA_Large.
Ensure you adjust any other relevant attributes as necessary to fit the RAMP_GA specifications.
<Parking>
<Type>GATE_Small</Type>
</Parking>
<Parking>
<Type>RAMP_GA_Large</Type>
</Parking>
Save Your Changes: After making the changes, save the file and ensure it is correctly formatted.
Test in MSFS: Load the airport in MSFS to see if the ground services menu now allows for stairs when you select those parking spots.
