How long does testing take?

Post by PatrickZz » Wed Aug 23, 2023 11:32 am

Over 5 weeks ago it was announced that EHAM was in testing and shouldn't take much longer. The topic has since been closed for no obvious reason.

Of course I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I can't help thinking 5 weeks is a bit long for testing. I know from other companies testing a scenery is usually a matter of days, maybe a week at most. Then if no issues are being found it can be released within days after the testing is finished. FlyTampa reported nothing about issues being found, I therefor have to assume testing is still in progress. But why? If other companies can test their sceneries within a week, why does FlyTampa need nearly 6 weeks?

I for one have never seen (decent) devs take less than a week beta testing. No, I am not new to this. Especially with a team as small as this team its no shame beta takes longer than a month. When a scenery gets ported from CAD to sim theres always issues of some sort. Those will be fixed for the system of the developer(s) only. When alpha starts internal team (mostly a small amount of people) will likely get a copy and bugs and glitches will be fixed. With a certain beta lots of different systems will get a copy, different windows versions, drivers and conflicting 3rd party software (gsx for example) this will certainly have an impact. The scenery may work well with a single gpu but sli or nvlink could make a mess and explode a devs head.

Hope it clears things a little, just be thankful and patience. It will come at some point. No news usually means good news like in the old days.

Don't forget the summer holidays as well... I believe this message was posting on the start of the summer holidays, which are now over... Not only the devs, but also testers take a break and this might slow done things...

And it might be that they are working on improving performance. Schiphol has 6 runways and every extra runway taxes the system extra.
Large hubs with just 2-4 runways are easier on your pc.

Schiphol has multiple waters, canals and the city of Amsterdam (even more canals) nearby….

Btw :
