No animated AI-Ship-Traffic

Post by MIB » Tue Jul 08, 2008 5:24 am

Hello everyone!

I've got a problem regarding animated AI-Ship-Traffic. (Only the moving ships!).

After several attempts still I'm not able to watch any AI-Ships. So no StarFerries crossing the Harbour.

I've made several tests (also of course I read the manual), selecting and de-selecting options in the installer and of course in FSX, but nothing helped. Graphic options set as recommended in the pdf.-file. Time setting set as recommended. GA-Traffic activated, and so on. Hongkong at position 1 in the scenery library.

If I check the option in the installer, a file named "afx_2HHX_flytampa_aiship.BGL" appears in the FlyTampa-Hongkong/scenery folder, but still nothing changes.

Still I only get to watch the static boats and static Star-Ferry-Ships (which somehow appear to be a little bit too big?!?).

Everything else seems to work fine (no, i must correct myself, Fly-Tampa has made something unbelieveable! This scenery is just great!). But still I'm missing the traffic round the harbour area as shown in some of the photos on this website.

Would be great if anyone could help,
Markus.

I think I know why this is. Hang on, the explanation isn't super complex but needs a few lines.

FSX's AI engine has the following behavior:

If all Traffic BGLs are compiled with the FSX SDK then they show. If a single FS9 SDK compiled Traffic BGL is in the mix, only the FS9 compiled Traffic will show.

Our AI Ship Traffic BGL "Traffic_flytampa_aiship_2HHX.bgl" is FSX-SDK compiled, so it will show along with default FSX AI traffic or MyTraffic for example. WoAI however uses FS9 SDK Traffic BGLs (I think), therefore excluding all FSX SDK Traffic.

To check if this is correct: replace the "Traffic_flytampa_aiship_2HHX.bgl" in FlyTampa-HongKong/scenery/ with the attached file.

The FS9 SDK traffic bgl's are exactly the same as the TDBB FSX SDK bgl's. What WOAI and most all freeware FP's (some payware) are using for the compiler is the TTools Utility which is not 100 percent compatible based on the TNG a '@' flag. FS9 and FSX TDBB Flightplans does not recognize the '@' which causes a timing error for the spawning of AI and large ship traffic.

Wow! Now that's what I call good support and service.

@martin[flytampa]:
Thanks for your reply.
I did what you recommended and placed the newly downloaded file into the FlyTampa-HongKong/scenery/ folder, and it worked.

So your guess seems to be correct, it seems to have something to do with the woai-traffic files.

Once more thank you for the quick reply and help. Now the harbour looks the way I remember and like it.

@jvile:
Hi! Sorry I can't help finding what exactly caused this problem, however all I can say is that what martin told me to do worked for me on my system (system & software see my first post), and now I've got the ai-ships crossing the harbour.

Greetings from EDDL,
Markus.

Glad it worked. Jim's statement was just a more detailed explanation of the same thing I tried to say :)
