CTD at VHHX

Post by rooster » Sat Jul 05, 2008 5:16 am

I need help please. I have done a complete uninstall of 9 Dragons and installed Kai Tak (FS2004). I have tried two flights from shanghai to Kai Tak and got a ctd on both occasions. The first time was with a PMDG 737-800 and the second with an Overland A319. When I looked at the report it made reference to d3d9.dll as the problem. Could I have left something in from 9 Dragons thats corrupting or have I just missed something, I'm not a computor wizz I'm afraid, (getting on in years a bit), so any help would be appreciated. I would also like to offer my thanks to the Fly Tampa team for a magnificent product.

Best regards

I would say simply delete this .dll file. You can make a backup of it first but it seems to me that this file belongs to 9Dragons so delete it. :)

How did you uninstall 9 Dragons? Manual deactivation of scenery entries and removal of files per manual instructions or using the Uninstaller?

Also, does the CTD only occur when you fly into HK or also when you being a flight at VHHX?

To further explore what the problem is I suggest you deactivate the FlyTampa-HongKong entry in the FS scenery library (uncheckmark it). Re-start FS2004 and see if the CTD persists.

I can't recommended this one. d3d9.dll is a default FS9 file and once deleted the Sim won't run at all. Error messages relating to this DLL aren't uncommon, the DLL itself is fine tho. It is something within the sceneries that triggers the crash.

Thank you for replying gentlemen.
Martin, I uninstalled by deactivating in the scenery library and then deleating the files from FS. I do not get a CTD when departing VHHX or flying around the area in GA aircraft, only when coming in from a distance with an airliner. It happens approx between the new HK airport and CH and the last time on short final heading for the checkerboard. Nothing to report after unchecking your scenery I'm afraid.
Sincere thanks for your help so far.

Ok, hang on there. This may take me some time to sort out. I'll put the orignal 9Dragons back in and see if there is a way I can reproduce this CTD.

Hello again Martin.
Don't know if this helps but I have just successfully completed a test flight into VHHX (yours by the way, not default) onboard the same PMDG 737-800 referred to earlier. I came in from Baiyun (ZGGG) about 75 miles away.
Thanks

Are you using AES and the 3GB fix?

No afraid not, I don't own AES. I'm also suffering with flickering textures now, (have mip mapping at 4). Mind you I'm not giving up on this excellent scenery.

That is not far enough away if the CTD is caused by some unknown. A CTD normally occurs anytime after you enter the Airport Visual Zone. When you enter one of the sector blocks that we call the visual active zone the CTD can be immediate or be anywhere along your flightpath route. This is why flying around locally (within 125 Mile's) does not cause a CTD.

To reinterate what Martin has said, deactivate FT scenery, Start a flight at least 150NM from the default VHHX. Use one of the default FS9 Jet Planes and not a 3rd party. Deactivate any AI planes and FP's that you may have loaded by unchecking the AI Traffic Types.

You do not have to fly the entire route from shanghai to Kai Tak but save the flight when you are about 150NM out from kai Tak. It is also important that you duplicate the same entrance point coming from shanghai so the same sector boundary is used.

This is the only way you are going to determine if the CTD is a result of some other issue (computer, added mesh /LC, leftover scenery, AI plane textures, 3rd party plane, etc.)

Hi Jim
Thank you for your reply. I am in fact carring out several flights from many places, inc Europe, with different aircraft types as well. I am also deactivating/reactivating the various elements you describe. My CTD problem seems to be an intermittent one as I have managed to complete some flights while doing the same approach each time. One thing though, I like to have an external peek at the aircraft from time to time and it seems that this is when I suffer most CTD's and normally close to VHHX, the last was as I was parking up at the stand! All input gratefully recieved.

Many thanks

Rooster: Please try this Patch. Perhaps the CTD was caused by a memory leak "boiling over".

Memory leak Test-Patch.
