Problems with TNCM and SABA after installation

Post by Aeon » Wed May 02, 2007 7:38 am

First of all I would like to congratulate you for the development of this amazing product. Keep on the good work!

Anyhow, I have some problems with it. After Installation there are two entries in the Scenery library of "FlyTampa- St. Maarten.

If I start at TNCM it looks like this:

SABA looks like this:

St. Barth works without any kind of failure

I tried to delete the second entry in the scenery library but after the restart of FS2004 it came back...

After this i deleted both entries and the flytampa folder in the main FS2004 directory. Then i reinstalled it. After this procedure TNCM and SABA worked fine with no sign of failure but if i restart the FS2004 one more time again it adds a second entry in the SL again and the two airports dont work again...

No other Scenery of TNCM is installed..

Anyone who is able to give me some advise for this problem ?

Try deleting the entry manually from the scenery.cfg file found in the root FS9 folder.

It should look like this:

[Area.89]
Title=FlyTampa-Maarten
Local=C:\FS9\Addon Scenery\FlyTampa-Maarten\
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=89

Theres probably 2 of them. Delete 1,leave the other, save & restart fs.

Odd problem :)

thanks georges for your quick answer :)

I looked over the scenery.cfg but found only one entry :

[Area.64]
Title=FlyTampa-Maarten
Local=C:\Games\FS9\Addon Scenery\FlyTampa-Maarten\
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=64

You got another solution ? :)

When I've had this problem in the past it has always come down to a second entry in the CFG. I think it also happens when there are gaps in the sequence. If you delete a scenery from within FS it sometimes doesn't cleanly re-order the scenery layers in the CFG and you end up with gaps that seem to get filled with copies of existing scenery entries. You might want to use an application such as RanaInside's Flightsim Manager. This has a good scenery.cfg checker, although that's about all I use it for.

The scenery usually disappears when a second copy is present too, and gives a Juliana that looks just like your screenshot.

As I say, I'm with George in saying that it is a CFG error. When Juliana vanishes, check your CFG after closing the sim and a second entry is almost a certainty. After that, check the numbering sequence in the scenery.cfg.

Yes,

sounds that this might be the problem!

I've tried out some things and it works for one restart. After the second restart there were 2 entries again.

So I looked over the Scenery.cfg again and there is definitely only one entry for Fly Tampa St. Maarten (I used the notepad searchengine). Ive tried it in different situations. If Im deleting both entries after closing the sim there will be no entry availably in the scenery.cfg. After this if a do a restart it will add only one entry in cfg, like it should. The strange thing is that it works for one restarts and after the second one there is a indication on the load screen that the scenery database updates. The result is the second entry :)

Maybe I should try this Flightsim Manager...

Edit:

Ive installed the FS addon manager 3.61 and try to find a solution. This Addon confirmed my thought that there is only one entry in the scenery.cfg although the fs2004 shows two entries !?

I have no idea what to do, sorry

So Ive deleted the Airports via the FS Addon Manager completely. After Restart there remain no entry of Fly Tampa St. Maarten. Then I reinstalled it start FS2004 and there is only entry in the Scenery library. I start a flight at tncm and everything looks fine. I quited FS2004 and start again.

-----> Now once again there is a second entry... :(

And the Addon manager shows only one installed Scenery!

Some idea besides of a FS2004 reinstall ?

Don't reinstall anything yet. Email me a copy of your scenery.cfg from the main fs9 folder and I'll check/fix.

Thx martin for this nice attempt to help me but it is not necessary anymore :)
I found a solution:

I deleted the Scenery via the Addon Manager. Then i deleted the Fly Tampa - St. Maarten Folder in the main FS2004 directory. After that i did 2 starts of FS2004 to look if any entry was left in the SB but no one existed. Then I try to reinstall FlyTampa St.Maarten but I disabled the option that the installer add the scenery automatically to scenery.cfg.

After Installation I did start FS2004 and add the Scenery manually in the SB.
And now it works finally. After 10 restarts there is only one entry of St. Maarten.

Thx for all of this helpful suggestions!!

The Rana Hossain software (if that's what Aeon is referring to) would be freeware available on Avsim. The latest version was programmed not to function after a certain date (who knows why?), but there's also a workaround for that available on Avsim too (it just flips the date into the past, starts up the FS manager and then flips the date back to the present).

I use this for checking that the layers and priorities all line up. If there are gaps in the sequence FS seems to fill them in with other scenery entries in the list, you can get gaps created by either scenery un-installers or even by deleting layers from within FS. Generally I don't like automated managing of my FS setup, but this program's scenery.cfg checker works fine for me.

You need to do as Aeon did, remove the FT scenery from the scenery.cfg by using the scenery configuration manager built in to FS9. Restart FS to set up FS9 without the scenery. Exit FS again and then run the Rana Hossain program and check the scenery.cfg for errors (there's a menu bar showing a doctor in a white coat who's happy to diagnose your cfg problem). It is likely to throw up errors and automatically fix them - it also creates a ZIP backup just in case you aren't happy with the result. restarting FS will give you a perfectly alighed and gap-free scenery list. Installing St Maarten will put it on the top of the list and you should be good to go.

When I remove a layer I always -
1/ Close the sim afterwards
2/ Restart the sim so it creates a new Scenery.cfg and re-indexes the scenery files
3/ Close the sim a second time
4/ Run the Rana Hossain checker to straighten out any errors in scenery.cfg
5/ Restart the sim. If any changes were made, it'll re-index again.
6/ Add any other sceneries as required.

Since I had the same problems about a year ago I've almost always done this sequence. On the two occasions I forgot, I had problems afterwards.

You don't have to use Rana Hossain's program by the way. There are a few other scenery checkers around that work just as well - from what people have said on various boards.

I am also having the double entry problem. I have tried to edit my secenry cfg files but am not having any luck. I have made sure that all of my scenery folders are the same. I am having no luck in finding the work around to override the Rana Hossain software.
I am using Vista 64 bit and am wondering if there is not some sort of hidden cfg file somewhere that over rides all of my changes.

Thank you for any help.
