I run FS on a P4 3.6 a P4 3.0 and a Athlon 64gunsontheroof wrote:My new rig will have 1 (maybe 2) gigs of ram, 3ghz pentium 4 processor and a 256mb video card...I imagine it'll do nicely.
The 3.6 has a geforce 6800 Ultra 256
The 3.0 a ATI 9800 Pro 128
and the Athlon has dual 256 geforce Ultra's
Little difference in them, as their processors are realitvley close. FS is more CPU intensive than anything else, the quality of the visuals is exactly the same between machines and the difference being 5-6 fps at most between them all at the exact same settings.
Grab yourself some fast RAM and the biggest CPU you can afford. And of course a nice card for other things.
I JUST PURCHASED A GIG OF RAM ON EBAY. 30 DAY WARRANTY. I HAD 768 NOW IM GOING TO PUT THE 2 STRIPS IN OF 512 THE PUT IN THE 2 STRIPS OF 256 AND I HAVE A GIG AND 512 MB OF RAM. IM SO EXCITED. I just did it today. Like just 10 minutes ago. It was 380$ but hey its worth it. Then I do on the other hand have the RDRAM. The Exspensive kind. MDW is going to fly.
Thanks,
Dave.
Thanks,
Dave.

Can you say that was a waste of money. That is the dumbest thing I ever heard of. Here is my pc specs and all sceneries run on my computer just as good, if not better than a computer with a 3.4 ghz processor, 1 GB of ram and nvidas new 256md video card.
Mine are 2.4 ghz processor
512 md of ram
64 mb G-Force 4 4200 vid card.
I bet my computer could outdo any of your pc's any single day. It's not about the ram, trust me.

That has to be sarcasm, otherwise I dont know what to say.
Not a real world pilot, just the PC type. And I'm a non-smoker.David248 wrote:Oh my gosh. CCOURTNEY, you are a pilot right. DO you ever fly out of naples airport. I can't wait till Eaglesoftdg's Cessna XLS is done so I can fly down there.

I have buddies who are pilots so yes I have flown out of Naples. And, Delta Connection flies their CRJ's out of here non-stop to KATL. I am not aware of any good add-on scenery for Naples. It would be nice if FlightScenery would do a project covering Naples, Key West and KRSW. But, I doubt that will happen.

Uhhhhhh, sorry, but it most certainly is about the
RAM. Anyone have the link to the well written article regarding graphics cards at Flightsim.com? As the article states, and as most of us have found, the first thing you should invest in as far as upgrades go is RAM for FS. 756 to 1 gig is the minimum for good performance, and I've found 1.5 gig works great.

Yeah it is. I agree TOTALY. The only thing is is that I think I need a new Computer. The speed still doesnt pick up that much. I mean I noticed a change at Detroit Metro. I did what you did, 768 to 1.5 Gigs of ram. The computer is still not moving as I thought it would. I mean before I went up, I thought I would try putting some heavy duty detail down, Cloud cover, pooring rain. I was in the Dreamfleet a36. It felt as it always did, slow. I just dont know what to do. I have a ATI Radieon 9800 XT graphics card. Please people what should I do. Thanks for such a cool team of Flytampa people.Republic115 wrote:Uhhhhhh, sorry, but it most certainly is about the
