FlyTampa Corfu Coastal Water Translucency [XPlane]

Post by PC-12-Pilot » Mon Apr 09, 2018 6:13 am

Hi Emilios and Yannis,

Thank you for this gem of a scenery, thank you for showing all other P3Dv4 developers just how beautiful X-Plane scenery can look! Hopefully this will encourage many other develpers to make the jump to X-Plane 11! 8)

I have a question relating to the water translucency, or rather the lack of it due to the watermask you've used that seems extremely close to the shoreline.

Let me illustrate what I mean. The following two screenshots show the shoreline on approach to RWY 35:

ft_seashore_01.png (2.75 MiB) Viewed 2453 times
ortho_seashore_01.png

The top image shows the FlyTampa Corfu scenery using the normal FlyTampa ini entries which hide the ortho-imagery I created, the second image shows the ortho-imagery I created with coastal shoreline water that looks much more realistic, but of course the buildings now sit on top of my ortho's mesh, which causes the buildings to float.

The next two screenshots also show the much more realistic coastal shoreline water translucency that can be achieved through the use of ortho-imagery:
ft_seashore_02.png
ft_seashore_02.png (2.89 MiB) Viewed 2453 times

It also shows that the shoreline is a bit off with the ortho-imagery.

Is there any way you could kindly provide us with a mesh DEM file that matches your Corfu mesh, so that we can use this with Ortho4XP for more realistic coastal water translucency and overcome the floating buildings issue?

Or as an alternative could you perhaps make some mesh data available to us that we can work with to match the FlyTampa Corfu mesh density and elevations for creating our own orthos?

Cheers,

Elias

hi there, many thanks

Our coastlines appear a bit different here, not sure if it's because you are using some water add-on that amplifies the effect or something (looks a bit too blue and opaque to me?). The water blending starts smoothly several meters off shore to naturally blend with default XPlane waters

I send similar shots below

p.s. sorry we cannot share mesh data
