New computer fast enough

Post by scoeva » Thu Mar 19, 2015 2:51 pm

Hello all, I am thinking about purchasing a new gaming computer and was wondering if it will be powerful enough to run FSX, Fly Tampa and other high end sceneries, PMDG 737NG, and WOAI traffic. Here are the specs for the new computer;

Model Aeon 3100
Processor Model Intel Core i5-4690K
Processor Speed 3.50Ghz (4.0Ghz Pre-Overclocking)
Number of Cores 4
Chipset Intel Z97 Express
Graphics Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 2GB GDDR5
Standard Memory 8 GB
Memory Type DDR3
SSD Capacity 256GB
Optical Drive DVD-RW
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium
Ethernet Gigabit LAN

Thanks in advance,

Scott

That computer should be fine, but if you're up to the challenge, I would build your own instead. Do you have a set budget? You'll definitely want to overclock as well.

Thanks Ian for the reply. Unfortunately I'm not all that savy with the tech side of building computers, so I am kind of at the mercy of prebuilt ones, and this one comes within my budget. Martin replied to a support email and said that the only issue I might run into is AI traffic at the 100% setting. Thanks again.

Martin is right, but it's not because of the computer's limitations. FSX and P3D are 32-bit applications and are therefore restricted to 4GB of VAS. AI, among other things, can dramatically reduce FPS and VAS depending on other factors. You'll also want to use an antivirus with a low footprint on system resources. Currently I'm using ESET NOD32, and I'm happy with it so far. There are several tweaking guides you can find in the various forums. I'm not sure how familiar you are with flight simulation, but I would read through the guide below to help you with any issues you may encounter. Good luck with the new rig.
