How long did the development take?

Post by Velocity » Sat Nov 10, 2012 7:41 am

Thank you very much for developing the Dubai Scenery for FS2004, too!

I want to ask, how long it took to make that project in man hours for

FSX and FS2004 version. Just interested

Way too long. Its been worked on since Miway V2 was finished but a lot of slacking went on in the process.
Generally speaking I see no way 1 person can develop a scenery like this in under 1 year.
FS9 version doesn't take any extra time if you have experience and build it in a way that it will export for both sims later. FS9 export in this case took 3 days.

So why in this case did we not see Midway V2 and the Grenadines make their way into fs9? Whats your position on future FS9 developments?

This is why

"If you have experience and build it in a way that it will export for both sims later"

I deliberately built Grenadines in particular with methods I knew wouldn't convert well to FS9. The reason I choose those methods in that case was to play around with some things that only FSX supports. Sometimes it is also a case where a FS9 conversion ends up "looking" too crappy for me to release it.

So my general position is that we develop for FSX, with FS9 still in mind... But if by the end the FS9 export does not run smoothly and requires a considerable amount of additional work, we may decide not to release it. This is not based on FS9 VS X sales figures, I don't really keep track of that. It is solely based on the fact that both George and I don't use FS9 anymore ourselves.

There is also a lot of scenery development "know-how" specific to FS9... that honestly I almost forgot by now. Vague memories about how to edit coastlines etc.

@Martin

Thank you for answering,

so I asume that this project took almost two years for that. WOW

How ever I have to say it is fantastic.

May I ask another question.
How big is the chance that Dubai colud be enhaned with Sharjah?
I mean Sharjah is also known as the "industrial Emirate" and which is much smaller than Dubai. I would be nice to see from far away a huge amount of sky scrapers togeter with Sharjah.

Also how are the chances that Abu Dhabi could be one of your projects?

That question was also asked hundreds of times in the aerosoft forum, but they have problem with the "Permission" to take photos.

I have to edit that I mean that Sharjah comes in a stand alone Scenery, not as an update for Dubai of course

Honestly Sharjah is unlikely because it is too close and while you and some others maybe willing to pay for it, I assume most would not be interested and consider it to be part of Dubai.

Abu Dhabi is nice and probably more popular, but also a bit too close for my taste. I can see the point in having GA airports within that distance, but since both are heavy hubs the proximity turns me off.

One I have looked at but isn't quite ready for development... is Doha. Maybe a few years down the road.

The new Doha International will open in the second half of 2013.
