Landing

Post by Twista » Mon Jul 11, 2005 6:37 pm

Ok I must say that this product to me is the best flytampa one yet, but i kind of noticed something about landings. When the AI airplanes land on 4R which has a ILS land perfectly but another plane that was landing on 4L at the same time which they had to do a visual landing they were so low to the ground before the rwy that they hit all the houses and trees before coming out of the trees to land on the rwy. But the rest of the product is perfect im starting to hate KORD because its taking in more traffic than KMDW on my FS lol.

There isn't much (actually close to nothing) that scenery designers can do to change how AI traffic behaves. The runways in the Afcad2 are placed the way they are at the real MDW.

This same problem occures in San Francisco. As I'm coming on my approach to land, I can see an aircraft skimming the surface of the water at the bay from at least 10 miles out, trying to make a landing> :?

Hmm, if this happens at KSFO and other locations as well it is suspicious since I haven't seen or heard of this before. An occasional AI misbehavior can happen in FS but if you get this on a regular basis you need to sort out if the Afcad2 are correct, what kind of AI planes do this and which don't.

I'm no expert in AI aircraft but if you see a single AI aircraft landing correctly on a runway and later on others don't land correctly I believe there must be something wrong with the AI itself.

I know that older Aardvark planes have some landing issues, as does the PAI 752 on occassion...I'd observe to see if there are certain planes that consistantly have difficulty landing, then change the .AIR files to see if it helps. For example, I use the newer Aardvark .AIR files for my PAI 752, and it behaves normally now.

You have to make sure you use the correct FDEs for your AI planes
(Flight Dynamics, that is the 'aircraft.cfg and *.air files).

For all pre-2004 AIA planes, make sure to use aiafs9up.zip at Avsim, it will solve most of your problems I guess.
I have lots of AI around and to KSFO, and never witnessed yet such AI behaviour. Although, as Martin says, FS AI engine from time to time gets
asleep and let some planes fall here and there.
