Approach walkthrough

Post by cheeseman123 » Sun Jul 06, 2008 11:31 pm

Hi, I just bought the Kai tak scenery from Flytampa and I must say this addon is beyond amazing and is worth every cent (and more!).

One question I have, is there any place that has all the information on how to perform a full approach to runway 13? I'm not talking about for something like the level-d 767, Just for something like the default 747. Right now I'm being a noob and just letting the autopilot fly the plane down the localizer until I hit the "turn" which I estimate and then switch it off and go manual...I'm guessing there is some way that pilots know for sure when to begin their turn. Could anyone please point me in the direction of where I can find all the information required for a full approach (if there is such material)? Thanks in advance!

There's a pretty nice walkthrough in the manual with pictures too.

This one is as good as any I have read.

http://www.fsstation.com/tutorials/dang ... hes-3.html

You begin the turn at the Middle Marker (MM). Where you put the plane in relation to the MM and exactly when you start the turn is the challenge! Winds always vary. Sometimes you drift it left to get a longer final when the wind is 130, 140/xx, sometimes you drift it right for the southerly winds (180/xx, 190, even 210/xx)

Enjoy mastering the IGS and remember - practice !
