Take-off

Post by danydj718 » Sun Jun 10, 2007 6:49 am

Hy all!

What do I have to do to take-off at TNCM with a heavy 744?

I always crash into the hills beacuse of a "stall-warning".

I taxi to the end of the rwy 09 set the parking brakes, then full thrust, release parking brakes... and here are the hills.

I set flaps 10
ZFW: 517'000
FW: 326'800

Flaps 10 on a 747 would not be enough, even when you wouldn't have a hill to considerate. Use Flaps 20.
I also think there is a weight restriction for heavy aircraft departing TNCM, and heavies bound for Europe have to make a fuel stop on another Caribbean island before crossing the pond. I'm not sure about that, however.

Now I begin to see, you're completely right, forgot about that.

E.g. AOM flew to St. Lucia before returning to Paris.

Thank you!

Most of the flight are direct; TNCM - EHAM / LFPG, but I think they're not so heavy as my aircraft was.

Anyway, all my flights back to Europe do a stop at TFFR before crossing the big water...

I'm not so sure about the direct flights. I just did a quick search in my AI plans for Air France and KLM, which show that although Air France (A340) heads straight back to LFPG, KLM (B744) makes a fuel stop in TNCC (Curaçao). One could wonder if passengers are able to board or disembark the aircraft, which would be why this stop isn't listed in KLM's time table.

Just a guess though. I'm glad you sorted it out! Which 747 are you using?

PMDG Queen... and always Corsair :D

Thanks for your research.

PS: The 343 is much lighter than the 744.

Look at that, the KLM flight makes a stopover, but I don't know where. I think you are right, it's Curaçao.

Also keep in mind that procedure is to make a hard right turn ( pretty much a 180 ) immediately upon takeoff to avoid the hill.

But yeah the fuel concern is valid and they'd have to make a stop. :)

Air France A340-300 has just enough fuel to fly back to Paris, KLM is now making a stop with the MD-11 at Aruba, they changed the 744 from st. maarten-->curacao-->amsterdam to a MD-11 which firt goes to Aruba and than heads back to Amsterdam and I think Corsair makes a stop at TFFF or TFFR too.

Flaps 10 can be used when you have a light configuration (i.e. few passengers and/or not so much fuel onboard).
