Like many I enjoyed a freeware TNCM for ages, and (perhaps like many) thought myself pretty clever by landing a 747 without a scratch.
But now I have the 'real' St Maarten reality rears its' ugly head, and I discover that there is no ILS.
Shouldn't be a big deal, I hear you cry, but oh, it is.
And it's confession time: I can fly a heavy with a flightplan and an FMC and do it pretty much by the book, but I don't know how to fly a simple. ornery basic thing like a DME approach.
"Look Ma, I can run, and I can't even walk yet".
So it's time to stop spending money on pretty things and time to get my head stuck into a book and learn something useful.
Authentic TNCM brings "Pilot" down to Earth

or you just add ILS with AFCADnorthridge wrote:......

There are both VORDME and VOR approaches for RWY 9 with various Transitions. However each also has a simple vectors to final which is a ATC hand holding approach .
Using either a GPS receiver or a compatible FS9 FMC you can add the approaches to your FP.
If you also "LOAD", "ACTIVATE" the VORDME approach by locking the GPS to the autopilot then the FMC/GPS will fly the approach for you. In this way you do not need to add any type fake ILS to the runway but use what is already there same as in real world. ATC will also honor the approach and vector you properly for entry to the VORDME approach.
I can assure you that a 680,000 lb B747 landing runway 09 on a clear day, vectors to final, is locked to the VORDME approach long before the runway is in sight.
