Shimmering

Post by mikealpha » Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:31 am

First of all thanks for the beautiful scenery. Looks great, at least until I start moving. Then I see a hard to stand effect, maybe best described as ground texture shimmering.
I tried to change Mip Map Setting, Anisotropic Filtering and other stuff to no avail.
Never had such a problem with Vienna or Dubai.
Of course it is impossible to see on a screenshot. I also read another user at a German forum has the same problem.

Any idea what it could be ?

I got the shimmering as well. No idea what could cause that.

Just an fyi,
I get this at KSEA, KSFO and now St. Maarten as well.

I am running a C2D E6600 w/ dual 8800 GTX cards at 16x/16x. I actually think KSEA is worse TBH....

My specs:

3,2 Ghz Intel P4E (water cooled)
2 Gb PC3200 ram
256 Mb GF6800gs graphic card (water cooled)
80 Gb WD Raptor 10000 rpm HD
WinXP SP2

The shimmering appeared on grass and parking lots after landing on a KBOS-TNCM flight with Pmdg 747.
The day before on a flight KMIA-TNCM with the same aircraft there was no shimmering at all. The only difference I could think of was that GePRO had changed ground textures from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. I don't have shimmering on any other of my aprox. 45 payware scenerys.

IF by shimmering you mean the ground is clipping with the ms ground underneath, it'll will be FS global causing that. Disabling it is the only option.
If you mean the textures are flickering or sparkling, you need to turn on AntiAliasing & Anisotropic Filtering.

Hi George,

yes, that's what I meant. And AntiAliasing & Anisotropic Filtering are already turned on.

As mentioned above, problem doesn't occur at Dubai or Vienna or any other Addon scenery. Just TNCM.

Any other idea ?

Vienna & dubai's ground are made the same way as SEA, BOS or TNCM.

You sure your AA & AF are actually working? Recently my NV 8800 panel refused to turn on AA no matter what I pressed. I reinstalled the drivers & it sprung to life again.

The other setting that can help is the lod bias, default is .5, I have mine at .375.
You can also turn on transperancy supersampling, this will help keep things like fences from shimmering.

Transparency Antialiasing really helps, but I'm lost as to why it would only appear on a few sceneries.

mikealpha: Can you post or email me a screenshot of TNCM. I just want to check that it is installed and rendering correctly apart from the shimmering you mention.
