US Airways & Delta?
Hey guys,
I dont know if all of you have heard, but US Airways proposed to merge with delta which is valued in 8.0 Billion US Dollars (Cash and Stock.) "The combination of US Airways and Delta would create one of the world’s largest airlines. As a combined company, the “New” Delta would be the number one airline across the Atlantic to Europe and the second largest airline to the Caribbean. The New Delta would reach more than 350 destinations across five continents, including North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa." -US Airways
However, not too long ago, Delta CEO would not go into talks with US Airways... so is this going to work?
Well... if it does happen, US Airways wasted a little money on repainting their fleet with the new livery.
What do you guys think about the merger?

Worst idea ever!!!! I think that would be the down fall of USAirways (DELTA).
The reason I say this because first USairways flys mainly an Airbus fleet with aging 737s and 767s. Delta flys a mainly boeing fleet with a few m80-90s. The only capatiable aircraft they fly is the 757-200. Also their hubs overlaps way too much. Atlanta is too close to Charlotte. Philadelphia is close enough to JFK. They both have hubs out of LGA and DCA. They both operate shuttle services between LGA, BOS and DCA, which they would obviously sell some off. The west coast would be crowded with SLC, LAX, PHX AND LAS. Then CVG is extremly close to PIT, which has already lost thousands of jobs and well over 300 daily flights as it is. All they want Delta for is their Europe service, caribbean service, and long range widebody jets so they can expand to Asia like they wanted with the A350, which got delayed until i think 2012
So if USAirways wants to merge they should merge with NWA. They already fly a mainly airbus fleet and MSP and DTW wont overlap so much. Then they already have their Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West coast hubs with also a hub in Tokyo. Thats what I think but hey what do I know??

I agree with you that US Airways should NOT merge with Delta. However one of your facts is a little bit blown out of proportion. LGA is not a hub for both airlines. However LGA is a "Concentration City" according to US Airways and, Delta has a hub at JFK. Something also to remember, if USA and DAL merged, the new "Delta" would have a somewhat monopoly on southern air travel. Following that, you have Higher Prices.USairwaysM80 wrote:Worst idea ever!!!! NWA - USA
From a financial view: "US Airways and United Airlines have since emerged from bankruptcy protection. Northwest common stock shares dropped more than 50% for the second time in three days following the news, largely because stock is generally cancelled as part of the bankruptcy process. In the following weeks, Northwest Airlink carriers Mesaba Airlines and Pinnacle Airlines both announced that Northwest had missed payments to them for their Airlink flying." - Wikipedia . Northwest has had the most dramatic financial setback out of the leading carriers in the US. Also, Northwest airlines has had quite a number of employment issues over the past year or so. However, that doesn't mean that other airlines have had the same problem, it just was a bigger deal than what other airlines were experiencing. If you compare the two route maps, I could easily see how you could picture US Airways and Northwest together since they are two puzzle pieces that would fit nicely. But if US Airways and Northwest would merge, it would somewhat ruin US Airways hopes for becoming a "Low cost" carrier.
In my view, "US Dare"

Just my view...
Kind Regards

I do agree with you USAirways just needs to settle down finish painting all their planes, and get all of their labor disputes taken care of (such as PHL) before they attempt to merge with any other airline. Also yes LGA is considered as a "focus city" but when you fly pretty close to over 100 flights a day to more that 30 some cities I guess you could call it a mini-hub for the northeast for both airlines. Also Jfk is just more for the international flights, Lga is more for the business travelers in the northeast that are going more coast to coast. Either way no matter what they still will never be Southwest unfortunatly I hate them

Yeah, that is a really cool feature of flying United. I don't really think anyone should merge at this point, or at least Major carrier wise.Edge wrote:I sure hope that United doesn't change so much that you cannot listen in with your headset to the pilots and controllers. I think they are the only airline, at least that I know of, that allow this. And, for the most part that is why I fly United.
