At any rate, it was only a small attempt at humor. I'll refrain from that next time.

No worries. It's just that the issue has caused so much confusion over the past few months I wince when I see DX10 used. ;) Truth is we designed FSX for DX9 'cause that's all we had to work with. When DX10 cards are ready only then will be *start* thinking about what to do with them.

Straight from Taildragger, a FSX dev, himself. :D

Doesn't surprise me much.... seeing that absolutely noone else is developing and shipping DX10 games right now :)

Next prediction: First generation DX10 cards will run slower then last generation DX9 cards. I certainly won't be running to the store to purchase any of the first boxes with DX10/Vista stickers on them.

PS: Dan, I like your choice of subject and use of fonts, would make a good tabloid reporter :)

I thought you'd get a kick out of that. For me this is like a huge "I told you so" to a lot of fanboys.

Page 6 Blind Item:

Thousands of people will buy DX10 cards the day they come out and will be convinced that FSX runs and looks much better with DX10.

Yap, and if the framerate counter says otherwise, it'll just "feel" smoother, end of discussion.

So, what's the bottomline? Go and buy CD2+I975 chipset system with mid-priced PCI card now and just wait for Vista.

I made my decision weeks ago when I upgraded my system. I don't really give a rat's ass about DX10. It's obvious that FSX was designed for DX9 because that's all that was available when it was created. How much difference can DX10 really make? Sure it'll make some but if you honestly think FSX is going to look like these artists conceptions that are floating around I think you're setting yourself up for failure and disappointment. Enjoy what you have. I got a system that I felt would run FSX at an acceptable rate. Every rendition of FS that has come out in the last few years has outpaced the available hardware so why would this one be any different?

Perhaps, FSX "superb" performance under Vista is also bluff.

Is anyone going to the AVSIM convention? If so, I'm sure MS will be asked sea of questions on sunday during their display.

Someone should ask them "WTF" about Taildraggers comments. As I read it they don't know what's going to happen after DX10 is implemented. :?

These guys are very well trained to provide "general" answers to very narrowed and specific questions, so I don't expect any revelations at this point. At least, they may always refer to NDA.

Here is another great quote from a dev that was posted at simflight.

JonP wrote:I have to say I am completely confused as to what sort of etiquette to follow as regards reporting problems. It's now almost impossible to know whether we will get shot down in flames by the ubiqituous FSX demo fanboys or thanked by MS because we've pointed out something they haven't seen.

Regards

A very confused Jon

Depends what kind of "geek" you are :) If you upgrade every 6-12 months it doesn't matter, if however you upgrade only every 24 + months I wouldn't buy anything right now.

my PC is a pretty good one, so im keeping it the way it is for now. for all of you planning to upgadr to a DX10 card and Vista, i would wait at least six months. both will for sure have some kind of bug in them, so i would wait until both are perfected. the exact same thing happened to Windows XP when it first came out.
