If you download the FS9 terrain SDK it comes with a program called imagetool.exe. Similar to DXTBmp, tt can do the format conversions and add/remove mipmaps too, the real power behind it is that you can program it to convert in batches. You can load a whole folder of textures and it will blow throug...

I think there are better (and more recent) charts on the San Juan VATSIM website: http://www.sjucerap.org/newsite/ Look for "Charts" on the left Includes the ground layout as well as the approach charts for TNCM (the site also has a lot of charts for other airports in the area, including TJSJ) Plus ...

Innsbruck LOWI is a fun approach, quite difficult too, if you follow the chart. Try it at night, when you see the daylight you'll be surprised you snuck your aircraft down in amongst the rocks :) Don't forget KSAN's approach over the parking lot. Not super hard but fun, especially with Flytampa's sc...

What exactly were you doing? Last time I knew, UT's AFCADs were in the addon scenery\scenery folder. They are all named F1UT_XXXX.bgl or something similar to that. Try uninstalling UT entirely, make sure that those AFCADs are gone, and reinstall. Else there is a UT forum you can go to for help. Ruahrc

I don't use FSX or Vista, my OOM problems are on FS9 and XP. It's either a matter of a scenery causing the error which I am not aware of (I have looked pretty hard at all my installed scenery for errors) or that I have simply maxed FS9 beyond its capabilities, and will need to install fewer addons n...

Seriously, I still don't see what all these arguments against me are about, especially when it has been concluded that we essentially agree about almost everything we have been arguing about (except maybe other than the round earth)!!! To begin with, I don't think customers care about backwards comp...

That's true, although I still don't see where I have spoken highly of the sim anywhere. Yes I have said that I liked the move to a round-earth model but one does not require personal time/experience with the sim to formulate an opinion on that. Besides that (the round earth), I don't see where I sai...

Intersting, you keep touting the great things about FSX but have never used it. I fail to see where in my previous post I said anything good about the FSX engine... please point it out to me as it was definitely not my intent to do so. ROFL, unbelievable...it doesn't matter how many times we've sai...

I've actually never even flown FSX myself so I can't really say- but my guess is that it has to do with backwards compatibility. The core of the FSX engine is probably still the same one FS2002 (and FS9) just with some additional enhancements (i.e. the pixel shaders and higher ground resolution, etc...

Yes, they lay down a photo of the surrounding terrain, but all the ground stuff ( ramp, taxiway, runway ) are default textures, at least it was on C9's first FSX airport ( Orlando I think ). Budapest ( for FSX ) is unusable for me due to very poor fps, and I refuse to buy anymore C9 products. This ...

Quite a discussion has stirred up again! Excellent explanation of the distortions that arise when projecting spherical surfaces onto flat planes, mdaskalos. Allow me to translate some of it into the FS-realm. In doing so I will be a little more specific with the "distortion" I brought up earlier, as...

One last thing, can you please explain to me the big advatage of this round earth stuff. Those of us who fly in northern latitudes benefit greatly from the round earth. The global model in FS9 distorts the terrain at high latitudes (it is visible starting at probably 60 degrees N/S, and gets progre...

Looks like they're trying to recapture the audience they lost with their previous 50% price hike. PMDG has lost a lot of favor with the community and it is sad to see because they used to be the de facto favorite.
